Can anyone tell me for sure if the Pennzoil Synchromesh is synthetic or not?

I sent an email to Pennzoil a while ago & never got an answer. I started using it in my NV5600 after reading about it on Dodgeram.org website, because it is half the price of the dealers transmission oil.

Thanks,

Troy

I don't believe it is seeing as how the bottle states on it that it contains "petroleum product". If it did actually contain the slightest amount of anything synthetic , I'm sure they would proudly say so and freely charge who knows how much more for the stuff. At only $5 a qt I will gladly change mine once a year or more ! Oo. I buy mine at Autozone, screw the , well you know who !!! ;) :p

Pennzoil Syncromesh

I've used the stuff and it doesn't look or feel like synthetic. I can't say for sure but thats my opinion. The GM syncromesh fluid, that I just put in, does look like a synthetic fluid and it's still cheaper, by far, then the Mopar stuff.

As far as performance... can't say I noticed a difference going from Pennzoil to GM... . it still shifts like a truck. I don't think this monster of a transmission is ever going to shift silky smooth.

Anybody know, for sure, if the GM fluid is synthetic???

No. To the best of my knowledge it is mineral oil based.

There are several much better lubes for your 5600 than the OEM stuff.

Amsoil 5W-30 motor oil.

Redline makes a product, not sure what it is called though.

Royal Purple Synchromax has been in my 5600 for 50k miles and in my NV-241HD for 70k miles. My 5600 shifts better than when it was new. I changed the OEM oil out and replaced it with Synchromax the same day they installed the new transmission.

i never did find the penzoil synchromesh anywhere near me, but i did find the quakerstate synchromesh oil [same as penzoil, but in a green bottle] and the best price i could get on that was buying by the case, and from the dealer down the road, i can buy the mopar oil for $0. 15 more per liter, and buy it by the liter.....

funny though, the factory mopar oil says on the bottle for the nv3500 trannies, but that is the same part number as for the nv5600's? i went by the numbers in the owners manual...

that nv3500 is also used by gm so that's probably why the gm synchromesh oil works too...
