seems like every week I read a thread about someone blowing up a set of injectors and ruining the motor or causing other major engine problems, Are these injectors failing because of the boxes or are we just hearing about the non stock failures because DC has refused warranty?? I am wondering if the injectors are more prone to problems even without a box than in the past. I would like to run some sort of box on my truck, mainly for fuel mileage reasons, are there any that are safe for my '06??

I think you are seeing several trends:

1. All major auto manufactures are starting to deny warranty coverage where they think there is a possibility it was caused by abuse or misuse

2. The HPCR engines are more technologically advanced, which makes it easier to cause harm when changing them

3. The use of performance enhancing products has increased dramatically and become far more accepted

4. People are using products that have not been fully tested for a extensive period of time to rule out possible failures

5. People are using performance enhancing products in ways the manufacturer of the performance enhancing product did not intend, or warns about possible failure

The combination is that there are an awful lot of bombed trucks going boom. The non-bombed trucks look suspicious. We all used to regard intake and exhaust mods as harmless, but not in the eyes od DC. Just a change in tire size is seen as performance mod.

I question how mocuh modding there will be on 07 and up engines. As they get even more technical, and the market for aftermarket performance enhancers dries up as people loose warranty coverage, I think stock diesel will be what we drive.

Keep in mind that for every 1 that has a problem there are probably 100 that don't, and on these forums you really only read about the bad ones. If you really worried about it I wouldn't do any mods. The newer ones are more prone to injector problems since they are electronic themselves and are running in a pretty harsh environment. I can barely keep this computer running and it just sits here on the floor. Just imagine what it would do if I heated it up and soaked it in oil! :-laf

I have to agree that it seems that most of the problems we are seeing are on BOMB'd trucks. I think this is because of the technilogical advances of these engines. The engineering does not alow for "tweaking" performance.

Don't get me wrong. I realize that there are stock failures. Always have been and always will be. It is just that when you BOMB, you increase the odds exponetially on these trucks.

Mine will remain stock simply because I cannot aford to "pay to play". When I am out of warranty (about a year at the rate I am racking up miles) I will modify the exhaust system to suit me and add a pyrometer / fuel pressure gauge. This keeps me from giving DC a reason to void my warranty, although I have not had to use it. I have been very pleased with my truck and the stock power is more than enough for me.

Over 100 thousand on my 04 with several mods including TST. I have tried to do mods with an eye towards reliability along with increased performance. I work out of this thing and do not want to get into creating likely problems, but good performance with sensible driving has given me great results. I do not race or tow heavy but it sure is fun to scoot up a mountain highway and regularly break 20 mpg. I plan on going at least 400K in this truck.
