Hi guys. Im not here to start any arguments or competition from one user to the other but im a newbie to the 24V and just need some advice from you pro's. I have a late '02 cummins . All stock except for 4" exhaust and afe air filter. Im wondering if by adding a performance chip or box if i will gain any mileage. This darn fuel price is cutting into my fun !! :-laf I just got back from a trip to Shreveport and the truck ran great. I got 161/2 at 80 and181/2 at 65. I mostly ran 65 but did run 200 miles at 80 to see how it did. Im thinking hard on the EZ but the superchip has my interest also. Im goin to larger bango bolts too even if i do or dont go with a performance product. Thanks all for any help. Im just lookin for a little help

I would suggest an EZ over the superchips. The EZ takes about 10 minutes or less to install, and really improves the power. Can't answer for sure on fuel milage, as I am still on my first tank after installing the EZ, but so far, things look better then before the EZ.

I drove to N. C. last week and with my drag comp off and dd2's and 35/40 hybrid turbo I got almost 22 mpg on my 01 auto with 4. 10's and 285's. 70 mph or 2100 rpm's is the magic number. . What type/size tire to you have and are you taking into consideration speedo correction?

Fueling boxes

Andrew, Dont forget to check out Diesel Dynamics True Torque Power module(EDGE EZ) or Ultimate Fueling module (Edge Comp)

These boxes are made by Edge for Diesel Dynamics with a less fuel timing. The less fuel timing can be easier on the VP44.

Goodluck in what you choose.

The advanced timing of the EZ will give you better milage potential if you keep your foot out of it. That's not so easy to do at first cuz the power is so fun. When I plugged a EZ into my '01 the milage went up 1-2 mpg. I later up graded to the MAD CaTCHER ECM which performed better on throttle response but netted about the same milage as the EZ. Strangely enough, my mach 1. 5 EDM's improved my milage as well. Now you could buy a lot of fuel with the $$'s you put out to buy these mods, so if that's your only reason, think hard about it. Check the classifieds on this site for some great buys on used equipment.

I've been very happy with my EZ, though I'm not sure what it really drives like since my VP has been on its way out since I purchased the truck. Mileage is around 22 avg for me when I drive like a grandma, the truck now makes black smoke at low RPM (alone worth the price tag of the EZ if you ask me), took no time to hook up. I'd say go with the EZ, but be prepared to purchase some injectors, Comp or Drag Comp a few months after the EZ is installed. Not because you need them, but because the EZ won't impress you anymore.

Once that bug bites you its all down hill for you bank account from there.

Thank you very much guys for the input. Im not only considering doin this for the mileage improvent but also better response. I dont tow anything but run up and down the road a lot or enough to use a lot of fuel ... . about 3000 to 3500 miles on average per month so thats why im asking. But im also thinkin maybe i shouldnt cause of the VP weakness. Seems no matter what its goona cost. Thanks a lot guys very much appreciated.

having very good luck mileage wise with the xzillaraider very happy performance wise also. my . 02cents

Check out the MadECM. It does all of the things an EZ does as well as inporve the low end response and driveability dramatically! General rule of thumb, the ETC trucks (auto and 5-spd) respond better to a box while the ETH (6-spped HO) trucks respond better to injectors. If you could swing the ECM and some Mach2-3 injectors it would be AWESOME power and very driveable. A bit bigger turbo and larger injectors and you're pushing 400hp (like a MadECM, Mach4, hybrid 35/40 turbo with intake and 4" exhaust)

Did I mention i love my ECM?
