I traded in a 04 600 and bought a 05 600. I had a edge ez box on the 04 but i pulled it off before i traded it in. I ended up knowing the guy that bought the 04 so i sold him the box. I have j/a edge on the 05 and i have a edge j/a hot box on 03, but ne way the dealer called and asked if i had a chip on the 04 i said no of course ,but he said the guy that bought it put one on it and it needed a new motor becuz of the chip. I inquired bout it but he just said the motor was gone and needed a new one becuz of the chip. I do not trust ne thing that the local dealer says but has ne one heard ne thing like that before are have ne information thanx

That was all said in one sentence... kind of hard to read.

Anyway I think you were asking if anyone has heard of a Edge box causing an engine failure. It is possible from what I have read on this site. Some people have seen valve seats drop which when happens requires the replacement of the entire engine block. Some people have stated that increased rail pressure could be the culprit in dropped valve seats as well as many injector problems others have seen. Any after market box that increases rail pressure then could be the cause of these problems.

It's one more letter to type any, rather than ne.

Yes, "performance chips" blow up motors all the time.

You need to have gauges to know if your motor is being worked too hard.

Depends on how he used the chip and set it up.

The chip is easily blameable for a defect in the motor. Generally a bearing or bottom end failure is not a cause of the chip, however, injector, piston, turbo, and valve failure are.

yes i understand and know the hazards of running too high of boost and egt's but the truck only had an edge ez on it that is only 65hp and sorry men i didnt know that you had to use proper english to own a dodge

You don't have to have proper english. It's just nice manners.

There is a alot of fuss over the EZ. Some say it's a great chip, and others say it stresses the injectors too much.

Your old truck probably had an injector stop sealing and flooded a cylinder with fuel. That usually happens when the injection pressure is too high for a long period of time. Or maybe an injector body cracked and filled the crankcase full of fuel?

Could be alot of things. Turbo Overspeed? Cracked CP3? burnt valve? burnt piston?

Either way, it sucks to be him.

Welcome to TDR! I hope you'll find this site very informative and entertaining.

As far as the grammar is concerned, you'll find this site to be of a much higher caliber than the rest of the Dodge sites. If you make your posts legible and easily readable you'll find many others will chime in with answers and assistance.

I, for one, do not like to read and decipher paragraphs without proper punctuation. It's difficult to figure out what the writer is actually trying to say. Bottom line, it's a forum, not a text message. It's nothing personal, just the way it is.

The EZ could have caused an injector to fail, which could have caused a motor melt down. The guy could also have been overloaded and towing over a mountain pass with a clogged air filter, causing EGT's to skyrocket and an engine meltdown. It's always wise (and a must IMO) to run an EGT gauge with any power adder.

On edit:

It does really suck to be him. What an expensive mistake! Just goes to show that buying used is a huge risk, especially from a dealer. At least if you buy from an individual, you can usually find out what the real story is.

How many miles did you run the EZ? What setting? Did you have gauges?
