Running with no fuel plate is bad... m'kay? :-laf

Apparently without a fuel plate the governor will slam forward and hammer a pin and after so long the pin may fail and cause significant damage to the pump. If you want the effects of running without a plate grind the stocker down to a "0".

I tried running without a plate for a day or so, lots of smoke and high EGT's. I like the #10, but soon I'm going to grind my own, probably something like the 100. If you want the full fueling of no plate just grind a flat one.

i took my plate out today and truly belive that it would have made more power with a good cut plate, when i drive it it feels strong then feels like it defuels hard. so i came home and ground me a plate similar to a 10, i have yet to try it but am 100% sure that a good plate would run stronger.

on my completly stock truck and no plate it dynoed 225/650

just some info to chew on, take it how you will.

It seems the same folks who boast of running without a plate are the same ones complaining of a broken injection pump a few months later. Without a plate the rack stop pin can break off, a $1200 repair

Do you guys have any #'s on the difference with a #10 plate and a flat ground plate. I've got several #10 plates laying around, but I've never tried a flat one or ran without one.

On the plate subject could you still hit the pin with a zero in the full forward position ? Say if you had the afc off and the plate out and you put the shut off in to the run position and held the throtle wide open would the placement of the arm be at it's full rack position or will it move any further forward wile running? I am to understand to that it puts a lot of stress on the pump to when you max out the rack or is that just with small injectors? I was told to get bigger injectors and cut the plate back. mjs

From What I have seen on dynos plateless trucks don't make the HP ones with properly Postioned plates do. A Plate too far foward is the same as plateless.

IMO the Rocker(the arm that comes in contact with the plate) need to be riding on the plate if not it vibrates which causes an on/off fuel curve. A fuel or torque plate is a very minor expense in my mind compared to our trucks and Mighty Cummins. TST started doing the plates way back in the beginning, they did there home work and made alot of us HP junkies happy, the plate number system is thiers. And now everyone out there has thier own plate and uses TST #s on them. There is something just wrong with that!!

I run a true TST #0 in a worked over pump. I have roughly 3 times as much in my pump as a plate would cost and a whole lot more in my Mighty Cummins, not including my twins and all that go with it. In fact even the Great one from the north(Piers) sells the tired and true TST plates.

I talked to a guy at tst and he said any more then a couple thousands ahead with the performance plate will not give any more power . I would think all mods done should have some home work time in first. In stead of making power we'll just be blowing smoke. mjs
