I've got a 01 2500 4x4 6spd with a banks ottomind controller, banks intake, banks turbo,4" straight through exhaust, and high flow air filter. I want more power and was wanting a few suggestions. I use the truck for towing every now and then, but when when I do its usually very heavy loads (small dozers and ag equipment) and its also my daily driver. I really dont care about the smoke issues. I've done some looking and have narrowed my choices to a set of f1 injectors and a south bend clutch. I like the mach 2's and the mach 3's but cant decide and am curious about a clutch that would go well with them. I was lookin at the Mu 13-1. 25 con OFE for the mach 2's and a Mu 13-1. 25 con FE if I got the mach 3's. I think the clutchs are a little much for what i would have, but i want a little bit of room for improvement to. I basically want something fast with power, but still decent for a daily driver to. Would like to hear all yall have to say, good and bad. Who carries these at a good price??

Thanks,

Brad

I've never had the South bend but i hear they are very good.

I just got a LuK 13" Cerametalic in my truck and I love it.

It was a little cheaper than the SB and is rated about the same for power.

I don't know much about the Banks stuff but it sounds like you are pretty well set up.

Do you have a set of gauges on your truck? EGT, boost?

cause with bigger injectors you will need to watch the EGT's closely.

What do's your Banks controller do? doe's it tap your pump wire?

You'll love some bigger nozzles.

Good luck

Joe

If you go with the southbend clutch, go with the FE. The bombing bug is addictive and you do not want to pull that transmission out more times than you have to.

I love the FE clutch I am currently running. It does not slip, which can make backing up 11,000 lbs of skidloader and 9,000lbs of loaded truck up a grade difficult, but I know it will hold.

My next clutch will be a SBC double disk when this one blows up (not if, but when).

yea, ive got a set of gagues. Im kinda worried about the EGT because now when im pulling a gooseneck with a small dozer at 75 mph or so on a decent grade im running around 1250 (sensor on the mainafold) which is pretty close to redline on the temp. Will the injectors make that worse or better. It seems like Ive heard that they will run hotter with a load like that. Guess I'll have to pay closer attention.

For a daily driver & towing heavy, I think you would be better off with the Mach 1. 6's. (better milage & lower egt) South Bend is an excellent company. Give them a call & explain what you want to do. Peter will give you the straight scoop.

Are you wastegated and if so what is your max boost #'s

I'm still doing fine with the stock turbo and the wastegate unhooked. I peg my 35 psi gauge with no problem.

about the highest egt's i've had is 1100.

The HX35 should be wategated & adjusted to 35psi max. any more & you are losing power to excessive intake air heat. At least, that's how Rip & some others have explained it to me. I was pegging my 35 psi gauge too. I swapped it for a 50 psi unit & found I was going to 38 psi. I decided I could live with that as I don't push it up there much. If you are pegging the gauge you don't really know what you are running.

I would definitely go with the southbend con fe. It will support all the power you will ever throw at it. Check out my website by clicking link in my signature.

Im running the Banks "Big Head" waste gate. When towing something heavy with my foot on the floor and a decent grade or in heavy exceleration I'll be running around 48psi boost max. During normal driving conditions with no trailer its usually around 36 to 38 psi max.

on your stock turbo?

On your stock turbo? ... . not cool i wouldn't go over 35 for very long if you want your turbo to last

I'm running a Banks big hoss on level 5 which is the highest level banks makes. With my DDII's empty there is no problem hitting 1400+F in 5th or 6th. I've only towed less than 3000# with th is setup and it tows awesome. If I throttle lightly egt's seemed to be less than with stock injectors. If you slam the go pedal at low RPM's itls another story.

Your stock clutch will not hold any more. Mine would not even hold the Banks box. Get the con-fe and never worry about it again. I went with the con-ofe because I was scared of having a grabby clutch. The ofe is almost the same as stock!

48psi is way too high. The Big-Head is suppsed to open at 36PSI. I think your wastegate is stuck closed. Check it out, I think you have a problem there.

I'm running a Big-Head also. When I get on the throttle heavy, the boost shoots to 40 & settles back to 38 psi. You might check the accuracy of your boost gauge. If that's good you have a problem with the wastegate &/or the actuator.

Mach 1. 6s would be great. Mach 2s are pushing it at what your towing. South Bend all the way Peter is a great guy to deal with.
