OK, everyone. I am ready for some performance mods to my Cummins. Especially after I had a Ford Contour try to race me the other night. I guess he heard the turbo whistling while he was next to me.

I already have a Jardine 4 inch exhaust and amsoil air filter. Frankly it has almost been confusing on everything that I have read on the Discussions Forum. But one thing appears to be true, and that is to stay away from Banks.

I have the HO with the 6 speed and would like to see some fuel improvements with what the cost of fuel these days.

Anyway comments are appreciated.

ok mike-- best help i can offer is to search for a thread by ted jannetty about the proper order to BOMB. ted's runs jannetty racing ent. in waterbury, ct. and really knows his... umm,... stuff.

I have an 01' with just a 4" exhaust and a psychotty and gauges and the Diesel gurus i talked too all said get an EZ next, the easiest way to add more power for the least amount of money.

Instead of just the EZ, why not go with the EZ COMP? More power there when you are ready for it, for just a little bit mo mo.

Guages first at least boost and EGT, second either a box or injectors. The ETH clutch probably will not handle both. third South Bend Con FE clutch. Then bombs away. I just installed an EZ on my ETH and I am very impressed. It has even better bottom end and pulls very hard. It pulls like it's in one gear lower. It is literally plug and play. took only 5 minutes. I probably will not do anything else for a while, since I'm fearfull of toasting the clutch. Go to the www.poweredgeinc.com site, lot's of good info, including graphs, estimated power etc. the HO does seem to respond better to the EZ then theETC

You have to ask your self several questions. How far do you want to go? Do you tow? How much how often? How much do you wanna spend? Go too far you have to upgrade the turbo, you already got the exhaust. A good starting point is gauges to get you some baseline numbers. EGT and Boost gauge. THen maybe a fuel pressure gauge down the road? Also before you add anything I would check the fuel pressure to make sure your lift pump is holding up before adding any addtional load to it. Mine with the fueling enhancements "pulled off" was 12psi idle and 9psi WOT.

EZ (or a VA)is one of the simplest mods out there. Plugs in in about 5 minutes and removes in the same amount of time. This box will give you about 40hp peak above stock. The EZ is the one I have and used (have a COMP box now). It has a built in boost module where as the VA does not. If you are concerned about warrenty and unsure how far you want to go I would try this route first. Its simple and easy and safe. The best part is there is a 60 day money back garentee and a 2 year warrenty. If you don't like it then you can send it back. (Most people keep them tho).

I would shy away from the "major" fueling boxes that tap the pump wire (PowerMax³. PE COMP, BlueBox, JVD) until you decide thats what you want and you research it. This is not something you want to walk into blindly. Study how the boxes work and why they work. Nit picky dealers will look for the marks on the injection pump wire if you need some warrenty work on the pump (in some cases). The tech at a dealer where I had some work done told me if they see a chip on a truck they have to call Chrysler.

Injectors... well fine and dandy, takes about 2 to 3 hours to install (depending on how fast ya go) and they are a decent upgrade and you can't tell you have them from the outside. Only question again is. . how much do you want in terms of power? Like metioned above, you can prolly do a box or injectors, and be fine, but if ya do both there is a possbility of slipping the clutch then. Again it falls back into the how much you wanna spend catagory.

Hope this helps... ... clear as mud now? :D

Well, this does help. It seems like there are a million and one boxes out there, including one from Mopar that I saw advertised in the last TDR issue.

I figured that I would get the guages first like everyone suggests so I can monitor the ever so important EGT's. So far this has cleared up many questions that I have had regarding some upgrades.

As stated before go with gages first. The gages give you a baseline for the stock truck before you start BOMBing. I went with injectors first since the large fueling boxes do not work as well on the ETH as on the ETC. I currently have 275's and the Diablo PowerPuck. The combination of the two are to much for my clutch... it slips in third gear under heavy load and 4th, 5th, and 6th empty. The stock ETH clutch will handle close to 600 ft*lbf... not much more so DD2's are about the limit if you do not tow anything heavy... . if you do, well then DD1's are about the limit if you want to save the stock clutch. I love my Power Puck, it gives a butload more low end torque, and the injectors let it rev out a little more.

There is one problem with BOMBing..... it never ends!
