I left my last truck stock and now that I have a new 6 Sp. I want to set it up. I just about bit the bullet and was going to buy a Power Pack from Banks but thought I would get all of your opinions first. Not by any stretch of the imagination am I made of money but I will pay for quality. What is out there in a combination of parts that will set my truck up better for towing. I need the brake so that is a factor. Banks has a whole lot of years under their belt and that is something I like about them. Not gonna be a drag truck (I will smoke the ocasional Power Joke when given the chance) but I do tow often and I like the power. Let me know what you guys are running and how it is treating you. Thanks

My truck is quite similar to yours, other than the 4x4, and the only real power mod I have is the Edge Comp box - it alone raised my rear wheel power to 286 HP and 656 ft lbs torque - a substantial increase that equals about 357 HP and 820 Ft Lbs torque at the flywheel - makes a BIG difference towing our 5er, and I can still keep the loud pedal buried against the floor if I wanted, as LONG as I want, with no EGT or other problems. At this power level, my clutch still lives (so far!), and I don't have to keep my eye glued to the guages outta fear something is about to break or melt...

Any more power than what I now have means a bigger clutch, bigger exhaust system, and constant fear that the next grade will be the last straw for the weakest link in my drivetrain... I sure don't wanna be like my Ford lovin' bud on our last RVing trip together:

rwallis,

You've already spent the best $35 you could toward performance upgrades by joining the TDR. Now I would invest some time reading. There are plenty of performance products out there that have as good of quality as Banks and much better customer support/service after the sale.

there are LOTS of choices out there, some REALLY good, some REALLY bad, and lots that are anywhere in between. There is nothing wrong with asking for thoughts on different vendors, as it seems each has a loyal following.

Dean,

hasn't SOMEONE given you some pom poms yet? ;)

I think you would be completly happy with a set of RV275 injectors (about $350) and an Edge EZ (between $450-$600 depending on who you get it from). Along with this I would get gauges (boost/EGT and fuel press). You might also consider removing your muffler (around $100 at a good muffler shop) and maybe a high flow filter of some kind (BHAF or KN). Your total cost would still be under (way under ) a Banks system and you would be running a very proven set up that will give you good power.

This is the same setup I reccomended to my Dad, so far we have done the injectors and the air filter... box and muffler coming up as soon as he parts with the $$.

Once you know that your fuel pressure is good to go, I'd try the Edge ez box alone first. It shouldn't tax your clutch too much and is a pretty good kick in the a$$ on a otherwise stock truck. The install is simple and straight forward, with no taping of the injection pump wire. Once you go beyond the EZ, you will eventually be looking at a new clutch, larger turbo, free flowing exhaust/air filter, blah, blah, blah. It never ends. Not that it's not fun driving a truck with big RWHP, it is but it comes at the cost of a voided warranty and alot of $$$ spent.

The ez was my first performance mod, still have the same box and love it. If the ez isn't enough, you can always add larger injectors ( also start thinking about a good clutch). If it's still not enough, you can still keep the ez, piggyback another fueling box to it, such as the TST PM3 or BlueChip, and add a larger turbo.

If the warranty is not a issue, then the Edge Comp. could be a choice as well. With the comp. box, you have the ability to just run it like the ez box or turn it up when needed. I wouldn't run with it set on kill all the time though, as you are now pushing the envelope with the VP44.

Hope I helped !

What Bigsaint said!!

Start with the EZ you will love it then go from there. Take it one step at a time.

same truck...with this added

RWallis, I have the same truck as yours and towed our 32` Cardinal TT prior to adding the EZ and BHAF, did well... ... added the upgrades and it now kicks butt! Waitin on parts to install the pyro and fuel psi guages, taken from my 00 auto. Figure the trailer at 9000 loaded, truck weighed in at 6900 even on truck scale. Hope this helps.
