Oil Leak Revisited

In the past there's been some conversation over oil smells in the cab of the truck. Some suggestions have been made that this is due to new oil, ect, ect. I previously noticed that as long as don't use outside air through your heating and a/c system,{using max a/c}there was no odor. I also noticed the odor was worse when when stopped in traffic or idling, with the defroster or heater not on recirculating mode. Thats because the air into the heating system is sucked in from under the hood. By recently relocating the crankcase breather bottle off the front of the front of the engine all odors are gone from the cab of the truck, idling, stopped,or running down with the heating a/c system set anywhere. Also, not to mention no more oil leaking or blowing on the engine. I hope someone at DC reads this. I wouldn't mind being reimbursed for the lack of engineering. Hope this info helps someone.

Crazy Horse, the air for the heater, vent etc. is drawn in from the grilled area in-between the windshield and the hood,it's not connected to the engine compartment. If your rear hood seal has come off,as many do,you might be drawing in stinky air from there. Check that seal, when mine came off I used contact cement to reattach it.

I know about the hood seal that doesn't like to stay in place. I don't believe it does all that good in keeping under hood fumes from being sucked into the heating system.
All you have to do is tighten up the grip on the pinch on seal if it doesn't stay on. You don't need to glue it.

Crazy Horse~ My hood seal practically fell completely off. Your right glueing it back on with 3M contact cement did not completely stop the oil smell proplem like moving the bottle. It was a quick thing to do to help some though. I have not decided to move mine yet. You suppose DC will void warrantly!!!! After all got a lot of $$$$$ to make up for last quarter losses.

Bob,you won't void your warranty unless you do something like kink the hose when you are moving the bottle to another location. I ran mine to the left in the opening right in front of the LF tire, below the headlight in the wheelwell opening. It's a straight shot down and over. That location allows you to keep it slightly lower so oil will flow down into the bottle instead of sitting in the hose, should you try to mount it high.
