Getting ready to buy a Phat shaft 62 for my 03 CTD. Unfortunately I live in the misguided state of California (home to Tookie Williams and Arnold). I'm pretty certain that California will soon have smog tests for our Diesels and my question is which housing should I go with (12/14)?
I do use the truck several times a year to tow a 29' travel trailer (10,000 lbs) up into the Sierra's (8000 + altitude). The only modifications to the truck are an EZ edge set on 2, an ATS manifold and an AFE air box. The current, soon to be shelved turbo is a Piers modified 3g turbo. Also most of the time the truck is used as a kid hauler grocery getter.
Questions: If I went with the 12cm housing for smog reasons would I really lose much in reduced egt's to the 14cm? Would the 14cm create much more smoke over the 12cm? Would the 14cm create much more lag?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
