Adjustable Cluch Cylinder - Not So Adjustable

Cleaning a Foam Amsoil filter??

I finally received my 64/14.

A little description of installation. First off, getting the old turbo off was a breeze. Getting the downpipe off ... ... ... ... ..... well, it went better than expected, but still was a pain.

Installation of the PS64/14 was a little more than I first anticipated. First off, I didn't realize the compressor and exhaust housing could be "reclocked" until I talked to Brady. Boy, I tell you what, Barry was a true help! Had I not talked to him, I would have been lost. Once I found out that the housings could be re-situated to properly fit the intercooler line and drain line for the oil, it was then a breeze as well. If you don't know what "reclocking" is, ask someone before you decide to change out a turbo just in case you have to adjust everything to your needs.

Now a description of the turbo itself. OMG!!!!!! Best thing I can think of is a Jet Turbine Engine compared to a pinwheel! It's that big of a difference!!! On the old HX turbo, I could hit the go juice and the turbo would almost screem "NOOOOOOOOOOO NOT AGAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN". Now, with the new turbo, I can hit that fast pedal and the turbo just laughs at me ... ... ... . almost as if "don't you have more than that???". It's incredible!!! There IS a bit more lag in spool up, but with how I drive, it won't affect me much at all. I definitely wouldn't suggest going with this turbo for a stock setup. Smarty on 9 and my TST on 9 really don't affect it that much. I CAN make the turbo talk, but I'm taking it easy during the break-in period. Before, on the interstate, the HX would be between 10 and 20psi and would hit 30 no problems with just the cruise. This new turbo is quite happy around 5 on the interstate and doesn't really move much with the cruise.

Thanks II and Brady! I really do appreciate your support and clarifications.

*Edit* I'm an idiot, his name is Brady, not Barry. Ugh! Sorry about that!

Can it be assumed that you like it lol? I'm pretty pleased with mine. Where does it begin to build boost with your setup? Mine comes on at around 1650 or so and by 1800 it's off to the races. That's at 6000' altitude. All the guys at II are a pleasure to do business with.

Must be nice... . Industrial Injection still HAS NOT called me back about the turbo I want... Makes me think that if needed, their customer service will be lacking.

How will the 64 do for towing? I have heard a few guys say that the 66 might surge, and spools slow. The 62 might be a little small for the power I eventually want to make, so the 64 looks great. Keep us posted on how you like it.

As far as spool, yeah it's kinda up there around 2k. I mean, it's BEFORE 2k, but since I'm not trying to beat on the turbo yet and I've only got around 200 miles on it right now, I'm pacing myself. I'll have to get back to you on that "when does it spool" question though. As of right now I'm planning on having around 400 miles on it by tomorrow evening (sunday). I'm hoping that's sufficient mileage that I can then put it through its paces.

At first, I was kinda leary about II and how much I had to go through just to get a status on my order, but since I talked to Brady and he helped me out and his sincerity of his help, I'm sold! I'm here to tell you that if I were really upset or concerned or wanting to get some action taken, I'd IM Barry here and he'd take care of it.

As it stands, with the problems (well, problems to me AT the time) I had, Brady was willing to bend over BACKWARDS to help. Since, it was basically my misunderstanding of how the buildup of the turbo worked, I decided it was all good and I would not look for any further satisfaction. They did their job and it was time for me to do mine as soon as I had all the info.

*Edit* I'm an idiot, his name is Brady, not Barry. Ugh! Sorry about that!

You need to quit babying that turbo..... hang it out, your not going to hurt it. I gave mine about a 10 minute warm up then once the motor was up to operating temp it was game on.

II is really busy now based on when I first started dealing with them in the Summer/Fall of 04' so sometimes it take some patients on our end. There busy to the point were I will call Brady on the weekend because I know he is working with you guys during the week.

Broken in to the point of making sure it is well lubricated and no leaks, if you want to put some miles on it then that is cool also. Your past that area... ... hit it..... just my opinon.

Jim

I didn't know if they required a break-in when I installed mine. So I took it easy for 100 miles.

Ditto what they said. Hammer on that bad boy !

Rock on!!!!

Yup, around 1600 it starts to wake up. Races??? You say off to the races??? This thing is slingshotting me down the road whenever the tires decide that the pavement is worthy of their traction and not just laying rubber ... ... ... ... . watch out for rain LOL.

This one doesn't spool as quickly as the stock HX, so I keep forgetting that unless I wanna dust for mosquito's that I really need to not hit the go juice all at once. I'll have to take pics of some highways I make disappear with my dustings. :-D

a properly built turbo should not require any break-in

Agreed. There's no parts that need to "wear in" to each other (unlike piston rings/bores) and other things.

It's just hydrodynamic lubrication-- no actual metal contact.

Thus, no break in needed at all... .
