'05 48RE Changes?? Explain the "NO LOCKOUT"

EDGE Question

Ordered one today!

After talking to Brady and Shawn at INDUSTRIAL INJECTION, I decided it was the perfect turbo to get. I was on the fence with the HTB2 unit with a 12 cm exhaust, but from what DD tells me about their own vehicles having a PS66 and how fast they spool to 50 psi, I ordered one.

I hope I made the correct choice.

Installed today,

Spools Quick, hits 50 psi in a nano second, exhaust sounds like a jet.

Very happy with quality of unit. A must have in my opinion.

Now time for injectors!

I called II yesterday and they said they are indeed working on a twins set using the 66 up top. So Fulmer wont be the only one having all the fun. :D

Don't get me wrong I really like the 66 by itself but, you know, enough is never enough. One thing I haven't noticed is anyone mentioning the spool up when cruising down the freeway at about 70mph. Wow, 5lbs to 55lbs like a flash.

I am very glad to hear I will not loose my investment in the SPS66 when Michael finally talks me into the twins.

Yes it does feel like a sport car from 70mph up, just sounds incredible too. Hits 55psi so fast can't hardly blow any smoke.

Mine is pretty close to the stock tower, but you are able to rotate the intake side so it might fit, but then you might have a problem with the stock tubing to the intercooler clearing the AFE box or factory air box.

Every once and a while I get a slight barking (bursting) if I shift too slowly (and let the rpm's drop while the turbo is spooled up). Anyone else have this? Thinking a blow off valve might solve this problem.

Next step, level 2 or 3 injectors...

I bark mine all the time. I try not too, but some times forget and if I am in it good it barks if I have to let off quick. Will also bark on shift to OD on hard acceleration. Been told it won't hurt it, but still makes me cringe sometimes.

Does DD / Edge own Industrial Injection now???

Not yet. They're waiting until they pay off their acquisitions of Edelbrock, Banks, Mr. Gasket, and Holley before they can buy I. I.

;)

JCleary -- In the form they send it to you, the SPS66 will NOT fit with the Kore towers. I had Floor-It install mine. The 3 hour job ended up taking two guys all day long and then some -- but we made it work. There are two things that you'll have to do to make it fit. There physically isn't enough room for the turbo to fit in the "contour" in the kore tower. There just isn't any way. What we had to do was clock the housing on the intake side so that the snout was above the shock tower. They also had to grind part of the turbo housing down to make it fit -- but just the point by the snout so that it clears the shock tower. After that, you have to rotate the intercooler hose to make it clear. When it's said and done, there is VERY little clearance between the intake tube and the intercooler hose, and same with the shock tower -- but it does fit.

Mine barked every time I got off it the first day or two that I had it. After the first week, it doesn't bark any more at all. This turbo is AWESOME. With my fueling combination, it's just a *little* slower than stock getting to 15psi, but once it's there, you'll have no problem getting to 50psi -- it's as instant as it gets. If I turn my fueling up, I can surge to 65psi and then it backs down to a steady 60psi when pulling hard in 6th.

anything bad?

The 66 rocks in Twins also!

The Auto"s and the 66 will surge and Bark, II is working on a wheel to solve this. the 62 has no surge/bark with the auto. the 66 and the manuals is a good combination.

I don't know how to explain it to you but I really didn't figure that it was going to be that big of a jump in HP. I can't wait to lean on it more now!

Yes, it's the top turbo with the Big Brother on the bottom and only uses the normal wastegate so it's simple..... nothing complex. I may in time put a small gate in the hot pipe and vent it to the down pipe to control the B/B's speed (boost) but right now it's no issue.

Jim

I am going to order a BD BOV on Monday and see if it helps the bark that I get when I shift. Plus, I would think it will keep the turbo spooled up more.

I'll post the outcome once received and installed. I'm not too thrilled when I hear the bark, thinking it just can't be good for the turbo.

Exhaust side pics.....

Mine barked a lot the first few days, but it doesn't do it now much at all.

I have to share this picture with you. Look carefully at the stock turbo on the right. Notice the very very very small turbine inside the black hole? Now compare it to the exhaust side on the SPS66 on the left.
