A local diesel shop has a phat shaft 66 that came out of a truck pull truck (employee truck). He said he made 10-12 runs with it.

He wants $1250 installed.

My truck is an 04. 5 with the Edge CTS (here on Wednesday), AFE, and Carolina Clutch ceramic clutch.

Is this worth the money and what type of performance will I see comparded to the stock turbo?

Thanks guys.

************Error************ It is a 62-80, new opinions?****************

Hey stranger

What the heck Todd, you fall off the face of the earth? Have not talked with you forever.

If my local roofer buddy had something better down there, he should let me know.

Thats actually a good price installed. Not sure its a good turbo for what you want as you did not detail that.

It is going to be slow to light and smoky down low. Once it does light its gonna go ballistic. Not really great for a DD and almost useless for towing but pretty cool for playing and racing. A manual and the ability to tweak the fuel in the low end will help it spool better.

turbo

cerberusiam,

He screwed up, it's a 62-80 not a 66. I use the truck to pull the boat (4k), the jet skis, and a 22 foot trailer for fiewood (10k).

Just looking for a litle more go, and to get rid of some of the smoke.

From what I have been told thats an excellent setup for towing and a manual. It would even work with an auto by tweaking fuel delivery. A little slower spooling than the stocker but much better mid and top range. Can't make the big power like a puller wants but really good mid range and adequate top end.

Is it on 12cm or 14cm exhaust housing?

I would definitely do it for my own personal rig for DD and towing.

choices

cerberusiam,

Now I have more choices. One of the guys on here is offering a great deal on the new thunder from industrial injection. He is local and will install.

The other was a 14mm housing and he dropped to $1000 when I told him I was leaning more to the thunder.

I spoke with Industrial and the guy there told me the Thunder is a far superior design.

Any thoughts?

WCabral,

I wanted to let them put it in, so they add 100-150 depending on the shop. As for the price of the turbo, you need to aquire it thru a local shop. Where are you located?

cerberusiam,

The thunder 330 is on the front page of the website. Click on it and you will see the atrical about it.

Well, I went to the turbos section which I had bookmarked not the home page.

Interesting, looks like it should spool close to stock and be quite a bit better on the top end for drive pressure. Looks quite interesting. :)

Buy and review it for us. ;)

I have already went with II's original Silver62(62/74/14), did not spool anywhere close to stock, and was a disaster towing. I do not see anything in their website advertisement(Thunder 330) that would convince me otherwise. It was a fun street turbo, once it lit... .

Yep ,My 62/12/71 with 4:11 gearing 3Gen is the best combination I have ever own, I talk to II today about the Thunder with these specs,It would be a big wait BC they are NOT carrying the 12 wheel NO longer:{ Maybe that will change :D

On Edit change 62 to 12 . Its the 12 wheel no longer in Stock

Anybody else have experience with this size turbo not pulling well? Really dont want to give up the ability to tow heavy loads just for race fun.

EEngel, just to be clear, my SPS62 with a 71mm turbine wheel, was a great towing turbo... . while it lasted. It was the 74mm turbine on the Silver62 that was the problem, causing all the lag.
