Philip

Do you have your new 4" exhaust yet? Is it on?:confused: If not where is it?? Honestly I don't have it!:-laf

Mines getting ordered Monday or Tuesday... ... .....

Michael

I got it in on Tuesday this week. I haven't had time to install it yet. I had a couple of 12 shifts this week. :(

I like the heavy flange that Stan uses on his pipes. I beats the hell out of the stocker that Dodge saddled us with.

Gotta see how the weather is this coming week. I would do it tomorrow. But I have to meet Bill in Indy and trade some cash for a HX35. :D

Thanks for the offer Scott. The weather looks good for tomorrow. So I bought some sawsall blands and will be going after the old exhaust tomorrrow.

Michael here is apic of the down pipe flange setup. I like it a lot better than that thin stocker we have.

Wow, that does look good.

I bought one of the 4" systems from Jeremy at Texas Diesel knowing that it didn't have the 4" downpipe. I planned on building my own DP so I would have 4". I liked Jeremy, decent guy to deal with and he acknowledged right up front they had problems with the 4x4 versions but I think they would be well put to take a look at the downpipe for the 2wd as well. I bolted on the system minus the downpipe without a problem, fit great, but DP is questionable after a close look. The one I received never really got much of a look when I got it because I planned on building my own 4" DP anyway, but after a close look I don't think it would fit at all, looks like a 2nd Gen downpipe to me and the flange is questionable.

If you want to build a downpipe Air Flow Systems has the exact flange that was on the OEM pipe, http://store.airflo.com/ad311.html

Or ATP makes a sweet machined flange, either the flange alone or the flange with the pipe transition,

Hold off on your order till I get a few issues straightened out. I'll be calling stan's tomorrow.

I'll let you know the issues after we get it straightened out.

SD I looked at the two links you posted. The first link that flange isn't any better than our stocker. The second is stainless. There might be problems with weld inbrittlement later on in its life.

Ok here is one pic. Thats as far as I can go for now. The downpipe fits in with no problem. If your running a stick shift there will be no clerance issues. If you have a auto then you will need to move the cooler lines a little to clear the down tube. Just a light bend is needed. Mine have about 1/2" clerance right now. I'll give them at least 1".

Firewall clerance is good. You don't need to do anything with the body lip.

The stock down pipe hanger bracket will work. I need to add about a 1/4" piece of steel to space the bracket against the down pipe.

It is tight at the frame on the outboard side of the pipe.

I use a machine flange welded to a stainless steel 3" 90° pipe for the school buses. They work quite well. The OEM for the bus DP and our application is a flange that is simply pipe bent back over its self. The weld in flange/machine cut is a bit thicker.

Our trucks OEM DP is stainless steel of some sort. And the cheap flange is welded in place. I have never seen a flange break on our trucks, however the pipe its self will crack. The school bus flanges will break off so I use a section of flex pipe down stream now.

That turbo looks very familiar... ... ... ... ...

So whats the deal Philip? Did the warranty just run out on your truck, so now you are starting to modify it? SOP in 05, you wouldn't let Scott under the hood... ..... :-laf

HHMMMM to much smoke Scott. It softened the thread looks like. :{

Michael go ahead and order you system if you want to. I got the snaffu worked out.

Now for some install tips.

Do not install the down pipe first. Put the pipe over the trans crossmember first. This pipe comes in from the engine side of the crossmember. Then do the down pipe.

I don't know if your going to use U-bolts or band clamps. But you will need one band clamp. Where the pipe jumps over the trans crossmember there is not enough room to use a U-bolt clamp on the transfer case end. This pipe ends about the middle of the transfer case wide section. Then the next pipe jumps to the muffler/delete pipe. #@$%!

I have some hangers to move around. I am installing the muffler for now. My hangers are not anywhere close to where I need them. :{

I go to work tonight and tomorrow night so I won't be working on it till Wed evening agin. 12 hr shifts suck.
