Ok I got the system on. Well at least most of it. I couldn't use the tail pipe assy. It had issues with my flatbed. So right now the system goes to the muffler and stops.

Now for driving impressions. I am seeing around 75 to 100 degrees lower EGTs at cruise. I am seeing 1 psi more boost at cruise. Spoolup is better across the board. I am seeing 1 PSI more boost at WOT.

The exhaust tone is a lot deeper now. Before my 3" system had a raspy sound. Now its more of a deep rumble. :D

Here are some pic's.

The first one is the clerance between the trans crossmember and the pipe. This is from the side facing the rear of the truck. The front has no issues on clerance.

The second pic is the connection at the transfer case. This is the one I told you to use a band clamp on Micheal.

The third is just a overall shot down the system for reference.

When/where do you hang the DPF/DOC and the urea tank? How often will it regenerate? Auto or manual regerneration?

Seriously though, we know your results are lies cuz we was all told by one of the more popular TDR writers that FOUR inch has no benefits under 500HP. Or was it 700 HP. I forget now. So, what did the systen REALLY do for you outside of lighten your wallet?:p :-laf

Bill I'll give you a call tomorrow. I need the number of that place in your area that does 4" exhaust. I'll be going down to get a tail pipe made that will fit.

All I can say about that "popular writer". He never installed a 4" system on a stock truck with a good solid base line. The only changes in my engine has been a set of injectors a month ago and a valve adjust at that time. Other than that I have put close to 100k on this truck. So I know my base line.

Dale that big round thing is a neighborhood inprovement tool. It keeps the people happy on early morning startups. :D It will sound like one of the loco's going by at low throttle settings. There is a RR track 1/2 block away.

If you want a neighborhood improvement tool, buy a set of PODs! ;) When you look in the mirror, you don't see the bad stuff! :-laf

I just took a look at the pictures, does the exhaust hang down as bad as it looks on the last picture, or is it just decieving? Can you take a picture of the truck from the side, so I can see if the exhaust hangs down alot? I really don't want exhaust that hangs down below the frame. Not only does it look bad, I'll probably rip it off, knowing the places my old truck has been. I did not put the factory "skid" plate back on, as it was bashed into the transfer case... ... ... .

I've not ordered my exhaust yet, there was a glitch in my last paycheck, only 43 hours, instead of 85.

Michael

Micheal if you don't run the muffler you can suckup higher into the frame. But with the muffler it has to go that low for the muffler to clear the frame cross members.

I'll take a side pic tomorrow.

Another thing I didn't add. If your running duals that tailpipe will be about 2" to 3" behind the inner dual. If you throw a thread the tailpipe is a goner.

Also if you use mudflaps. Most likely they will need remounted. The tailpipe will most likely hit them on the inside edge.

Michael here are the pic's of a side view.

One thing I forgot about. If you pull the extention pipe up into the frame area the tail pipe will not work. It is made for the level I have it mounted at. There is no room to raise the tail pipe any higher than the level the muffler is at right now. It hits the shock mounting cross member. It is a tight fit even then. I might have to trim the right side axle stop bracket some to give me a little more clerance.

Philip- your EGT/ boost results are the same as what I noticed on my 91.

I hate to say it, but from the pics, I wouldnt buy it- hangs down to ofar beneath the frame. There is plenty of room up there for a muffler to be stuffed. I have 4-5" clearance in my "custom" system around the pipe. I dont have the t-case, so that may be an issue, but I'd think if it was done right around the t-case, it'd leave one enough room for a muffler.

I agree on the neighborhood improvement thingie. I gotta get one anyway for my pickup- vinyl doesnt insulate sound as well as 2 layers of carpet.

Ok I got the tailpipe reworked today. Another problem we ran into. After we put the tailpipe into the muffler we found it wasn't sitting right over the axle. We had to add 5" to the tailpipe in front of the axle to get it to clear properly. That is why I had interference problems with the axle stop and my mud flap.

If you go with stan's tailpipe extension to come out from under the truck. It will drop the exhaust right about 10" from the end of the bed.

So for the fine print. Would I recommend a Stans' system?

From the engine to the muffler yes I would. Every thing fits like it should. Good quality bends. No fit issues.

From the muffler/delete pipe to the side/end of the truck. "NO" Fit/length issues and a tailpipe like a 2nd gen. No thanks I don't drive a second gen so I don't need a tailpipe that looks like one.

I'll post pic's tomorrow. I got back to late to get good pic's today.

Micheal I can raise the sytem up more now with the tailpipe properly positioned.

Here are the pic's.

The first pic is the piece we had to add to position the tail pipe properly.

The second pic is behind the axle. The cut and weld you see after it finishes the jump over the axle was to shorten the pipe. The end of the pipe was about 5" lower than I wanted it. (I think we found the 5" we had to add to the front section). :-laf

The third pic is another angle of pic 2. You can see the clearences I have now. I do plan on raising the system up another 3" now I have the room to.

This first pic is a rear view.

The second is a side view.

Micheal you were worried about it being to low. The pipe the muffler connects to can be positioned a lot higher. It can go high enough to allow a straight piece of pipe to go back threw the shock mount area. Then use a pair of 45% bent pipes to drop down would get you past the rear axle. Then use what ever bend you would want to exit to the side or end of bed.

Thanks for the tips and pics.

So sounds like buy the DP and transfer case pipe, then buy some bends and make your own tailpipe?

then buy some bends and make your own tailpipe?

There you go.

You can bring the system a lot higher without a muffler and use straight pipe to jump the axle. Then use 2ea 45 degree bends to drop to what ever level you need to clear the side of the bed or rear bumper whichever way you want to exit.

Now to be fair. I did not call Stan's on this tailpipe issue. I am sure most likely he would have tried to correct the problem. But there would have been return shipping and new shipping charges for the new parts. So I found a person that had 4" expanding tools and just reworked the tail pipe myself. This gave me the finished system I wanted instead of the 2nd gen looking setup.

Remember my truck isn't turned up so the 90 on the tail pipe will not effect my trucks performance one bit. Even if I do turn it up. I have a long way to go before it would cause enough restriction to be an issue. :-laf
