AOL.COM vs. NETSCAPE.COM, ???

would love to see that thing running wide open with the afterburner kicked in.

Ive been thinking about taking my big turbo and doing the same, but then I also have a beat up T3 that I could do the same and put my big one on a go-kart or something and freak out the neighbors when I finaly move into a house. the apartments I live in tollerate my RC cars, but realy dont like them that much. . . they make too much noise from what Ive been told  :D

Lordy, lordy! Ifn I was you I'd put a scatter shield around that thing, and a good thick one. That comprssor is not designed for the kind of heat that thing generates. You'd better be careful cause when that thing shells out wees is gonna read all about youse being perforated in lots of locations :-laf

Hey Nick, maybe you should consider telling everyone about all of the ads etc. , they will get when opening the site for your pictures?

You may want to invest in a popup blocker, or turn yours on. They make using the net a lot more enjoyable. Mine beeps everytime it stops one and that is at almost every page on most sites. Jake

Not sure on RPM. KBennett may be able to help me out with a magnetic pick-up tach. I am running it pretty conservatively I think. I have never had the fuel valve 100% open. It idles at about 20% throttle so I have a ways to go on a full tank. I need to hook my pressure guage back up to it and see what I am pushing for boost numbers.

Chris. . . the guy from Junkyard wars, you know who I'm talking about Nick. he has a multi meter with a tach function on it, he ran an optical tach line to the nut on the compressor wheel and uses a LED to measure the speed of the turbo.

when he's got the thing wide open with the after burner kicked in it'll go well over 100,000 rpm

I need to get one of those! Similar to the ones uses on dynos with reflective tape and a red LED for crank balancer RPM.

Where is Chris located? I would like to meet him some time! I really need to get my afterburner mounted and convert the oil and ignition to 12v. I will work on the A/B and pressure first, then tach and temp.

Nick

I havent talked or seen him in some time, last I know he lived about 3 hours away from me in a town just outside of Augusta GA. he used to have a web page but I'm having a hard time finding it.

Nick,

We can do photoelectric if you want but I was concerned about the heat. I will see what I have layin' around and get it to you.

Check out one of those low cost inverters for converting 12 Volt to 120V. I have one that works great for powering the boys TV and Playstation while we are driving. You just have to be careful about how many watts you draw.

You really need to harness all that power somehow :D

What are you using to start it???

I have seen some use leaf blowers and some use air compressors.

Justin

Yep, simple leaf blower. It has just enough volume to start it. I am thinking about drilling and tapping a hole for a small pipe, aimed right at the blades, to plug a quick-connect onto and hooking up compressed nitrogen or something from a bottle.

Kirk, as for 110vac to 12vdc, that's not the problem. What I want to do it convert the oil to a 12vdc battery system, so I can run it totally independant from 110 power.

The photoelectric would work. The compressor side stays cool enough for that!

Nick

or instead of useing the compressed nitrogen, which might put the flame out, you could get a small starter from a honda and use that to spin it up from the 12v battery. it wont be drawing that many amps since it isnt under a heavy load, just has to spin the thing up fast enough to pressureize the system.

I actually have a spare 12V started for my model airplanes. I use one on my heli and have a spare that still works. I will have to find a clutch or use a cone-type extension on the compressor nut to grab onto by friction. Or I could use a socket that locks onto the compressor nut, but would need a one-way clutch of some kind for sure.

Anyone have oil system ideas? I need something that can pump motor oil through a filter and about 5 feet of oil lines that is 12 volt. I could probably hook up a standard 12-volt cordless drill/drive right up to a deep cycle marine battery, but would need to find a gear or vane pump for it.

You got it backwards. Convert the 12VDC(from a battery) into 120VAC and plug your pump and igniter into it. The inverter I have cost $35. 00 at Sams.
