did a search and read for an hour without a real answer. i just installed a set of piaa 510 fog lamps that come with all the wiring. can i just wire the new fog lights to the connectors from the factory fogs that i removed? then i will have a wire harness and relay for my other (cheaper) driving lights that did not come with a wire harness.

check the size of fuse provided with the lighting kit compared to the fuse size for the factory foog light if the are the same current raiting there shouldn't be a problem

You might want to consider skipping using the truck wiring and use the wiring from the kit. That way you could use the sensor wire to turn the fogs on with the parking lamps and use them not only with the low beams but the high beams as well... . that is unless someone here can post a way to use the OE wiring and switch and convert it from "low beam" only use to low & high beam. I'm sure someone else can chime in and state if they feel the OE wiring is of a high enough gauge to work with your new PIAA's.

I highly doubt the wiring is heavy enough to support the PIAA's. Manufacturers use the bare minimum wire size they can get away with for a given load and the factory fogs definately draw less than the PIAA's. On my 2nd gen I put a pair of PIAA fogs on. What I did was use the PIAA harness except that I didn't use their on/off switch. Hooked up the wires that go to the on/off switch to the factory fog light harness. That way nothing changed inside the cab of the truck - the factoy fog lamp switch turns them on - but the load is safely carried on the PIAA harness. As to running the fogs with high beams on the 2nd gen's it was just a matter of removing a relay from the PDC and putting a jumper in it's place - not sure how to do it on the 3rd gen.

I used the factory harness to fire the PIAA relay, so it is carrying the load and I replaced the light switch with the factory fog light one, so it operates like the factory installed fogs. Check your state laws, mine does not allow the fogs to work with high beam and they check it for the state inspection.
