I installed it last weekend and was showing some of my friends where I put it when I told them I went pre turbo. So I poped the hood and showed them and there asked me "are you suposed to put it there?" So that got me thinking I might have done it wrong but I dont think I did it wrong, what do yall think.

Pyro Probe

Thanks

Thanks thats what Im thinking. Also I was talking about it with those same friends and got going on how much of a diffrence in temp from where I have the probe to the temp at the turbo and we are seaming to think that its like + - 100-200* or so hotter at the probe then at the turbo, kind of like how post turbo shows cooler temps then pre turbo but not to that extent.

So Im thinking that if I ever see 1400 or around there I can still be a safe if I back it off. I havent gotten over 1150 yet but I havent started bombing her yet.

Thanks

When you push the 1400 mark , be careful , dont do it for a long time. Also remember to let the turbo cool down after a hard pull.

You might want to get a 4" exhaust and a high volume air filter. if you got the heavy foot . :D

That is good.

What you want to measure is the Cylinder temperature... after all it is the pistons that melt first.

One thing I have noticed in the 2nd gen engines is that it is almost always the back cylinder that melts first... so if it were an option, I would put mine further back in the manifold back toward the transmission / rear or engine. But you are in the manifold and I would put mine there on 3rd gen because it is easy to get to. My 2nd gen was easier to get it further back. All of this probably does not mean anything. You did good!:)

You could do like the Ford guy I heard about the other day who kept frying turbos. Had his pyro in the exhaust pipe 12" and was regularly seeing 1400*:--) on the pyro. This was on a 7. 3 liter.

Putting it there gives you a reading from two cylinders, and all of the other places to put the pyro would've only given you readings from one.

On my 2001, I installed the pyro on my ATS manifold wrong and it would only read up to about 1000-1100 degrees (I had DD3's at the time). After consulting with a friend about why my temps were so low, we discovered the problem. After I moved it my EGT's were "surprisingly" higher. ;)

thats the exact problem I have now,

With a SO/5-spd amd 4 inch exhaust, I CANNOT HIT MORE THAN 1000 degrees... . and that with the EZ on level 3

so what gives? I have my probe right where the pic has it, maybe a little more back towards the cab

Blkdawdg, I'm not sure if you were referring to where I put mine or to the original topic starter.

I found that even when towing with the Edge, I have a hard time hitting 1100 in the flatlands. However, I towed my 4k camper in the mountains a few weekends ago and didn't have a problem hitting 1200. I backed off a few times as it was rising quick enough.

Blkdawdg has this been a problem from the start, or has this problem just started. if you installed it on the 03 just like the picture you should see better temps than what I see. Check all your connections from the probe to the gauge. You should see 200-250f at start up and 550-700f driving at hwy speeds, when you get on it it can go into the 1200f land.

That is right where mine runs. I have not had anything near 1200, but expect to see readings 950-1200 when the truck is really working out towing my fiver. I am happy with how fast the egt goes down when you back off. You will notice that you need to disengage your exhaust brake to let the egt's down prior to shutting down.

Man thanks for the replys guys I feel alot better now. From the looks of the manifold when I took it off it looks like Im getting the readings from the first 3, or I think I put it far enough back to pic up the 3rd cylinders but ohwell it works for me. As far as the readings Im getting abut 200-250 at start up, 400 sitting at the lights and upto 1000 when I get on it to pass gramps in the lane next to me around town. Got it up to about 1100-1150 the other day passing uphill starting at 75 going to about 80-85. Those seam about normal to what I have read so I am confadent that I did a good job. Now I just have to wait for my Piers bolt to get here so I can see that boost gauge move.

ScottBrown as for the 4" and high volume air filter, I put a 4" Aero turbine inplace of the stock muffler, and Im working on getting the hook up on a cold air kit from a friend of mine, he says I wont notice the diffrence tell I get a chip so wait tell then but I think anything to make the cost at buying the chip less the better plus more air is allways good.

Thanks
