I picked up my new 600 today. I named it Taco in honor of the guys who built it.

I have put about 80 miles on it tonight, nothing full throttle but you can tell it has some power.

One thing I can say is this truck is significantly quieter than a 04.

I could not remember where the indicator was in the engine compartment to tell whether it was a true 600 or not so I asked the sales manager how I could tell the difference. He wasn't sure but one of the other salesmen over heard the conversation and told me that he would pull a regular 04 up next to mine so I could hear how much quieter the new 600 was.

I thought how much quieter could they make this truck over the already quiet 04. I was amazed. If you like the loud diesel sound don't buy the new 04. 5.

The truck is great, fit and finish top notch.

I think you are the first one to take delivery. Was there a hold on yours for the exhaust clamp?

What is a DG8? Mine is a DR8H42 (See sig for details)

I want mine!!!!

I didn't realize it was supposed to be all that much quieter. That's just fine with me. The noise interferes with my classical music.

No mention of the clamp issue from my dealer.

The truck actually came in a week early. I received a vmail from my salesman today and I almost deleted it without listening to it because I just thought he was leaving me so bla bla about the truck should be in soon.

It was ordered Jan. 5th and rolled off the truck today at about 2pm CT.

One of the benefits of living close to the border.

Since we now have a confirmed delivery of a 600, does this mean Ford will stop with their (now) false advertising of the SD as "most powerful in it's class"? :D

I would think that there has to be a better way of telling a 305/555 and a 325/600 a part than setting two side by side and listening for the one that is quieter... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . like the data plate on the engine that says what the torque and HP are?

They added another injection event?

They added another injection event?

rbattelle:

In the write up the Joe Donnelly did he talked about how they changed the injection settings.

So What injection pump does this motor use?

Is it the same as the 04?

What about the rail pressure is it the same also?

Fan Shroud attached to Engine

Per Joe Donnelly's article, the big open the hood difference should be the fact the fan shroud is now attached to engine with a seal to seal it off to radiator.

How about some pictures of under the hood, and some close ups of the turbo so I can compare to my 04 and see the differences in the turbo and exhaust manifold.

I agree the engine data plate is the easy way to identify the engine. I was just so excited (and dark outside) I could not find where it was.

I have now confirmed by reading the data plate (located in an easy to read location on the side of the valve cover, that it is indeed a 600. Cummins calls it, Model ISB 325.

I'll try to take some pictures later today, still kinda dark outside to get good photos.

I'm envious! Hopefully I will get mine this week! There are a few guys who have waited longer than you who are probably ready to chew on sixteen penny nails after reading your post.

I talked to my dealer today and he said that Chrysler gave them a verbal that they are releasing the hold on the trucks with the exhaust clamp issue, and will let the dealers work it out under warranty. They hope to have posession of my truck within 24 hours. I wish Chrysler would have decided that a week ago.

assist in my elimination of ignorance

does the 325/600 have vgt

if so, what is the powerband like and what does the turbo sound like?

thank you

The 600's have a Hybrid turbo on them utilizing an HY-35, HX-35 and HX-40. It Is NOT a VGT, it is a fixed 9cm housing.

They have an Electronicly activated WasteGate.

There is NO EGR.

They have 3 injection events per PowerStroke, and will Maintain Over 580 Pounds of Torque at it's Peak HP. Very, Very Flat Torque Band. Fat and Wide.

I picked up my new 600 today. I named it Taco in honor of the guys who built it.

Are you going to add some hot sauce to taco, mild or hot?

My 2004. 5 was ordered 12/29/04! Since I've owned a:'98;'99;'02;and am currently driving an''03, I can't wait to tell you about the differences! The '03 is a six speed w/3. 73--- I went up a tire size over OEM, had the speedometer recalibrated , and am currently getting 18. 2 mpg. Only pull a toy box which weighs in @ 3500lbs. The '02 was also a six speed-- VERY noticable difference in "jump off" ability between the '02 and the '03. Will let you know about the difference between the '03/04. 5!

I did make the effort to drive the other things out there--- as in Duralax and powerjoke----- There is but ONE superior platform---

D/C Cummins.

Will post soon!!
