I picked up my 325/600 Friday evening. Have not been willing to walk away from it long enough to post until now. This thing is a monster! It is impossible not to smile when I am driving it. The "football delivery pipe" is incredible, although my wife and kids are already complaining that the woosie suitcase sized muffler is way too quiet. The only exhaust clamp issue that I can see is the fact that all of the clamps are installed with the bolts pointing downward, as in "where is the next big rock". I plan on turning them over today.
Having not driven a Cummins before, other than my test drive of an "SO", I note some big differences between it an my Ford IDI 7. 3 with Banks Turbo. The Cummins really comes on hard at about 2000 RPM. Comes as a bit of a surprise the first time driving. I really like the positive feeling of the NV5600, although I am not yet used to the narrow gate in 6th. It is really great not having an indecisive automatic transmission in charge of gear selection.
As far as engine noise is concerned, this thing is amazing. My neighbor up the street has a 2nd gen, and there is no way that he can sneek away. Not so with this truck. It is pretty nice. I like diesel noises, but am a bit embarassed when I need to start my old (7. 3) truck early in the morning. This thing is so quiet that it won't be an issue. (at least until I change the muffler)
For those of you who are still waiting, I placed my order in Pasadena on December 12th. The truck was built at the Saltillo, Mexico plant on January 8th. Shipped by rail via Laredo, Texas. Was waiting in Loma Alta, about 60 miles away by Jan 23. I took delivery on Jan 30. That last week was a killer wait!
The dealer has been teriffic. Would highly recommend to any locals. PM me for details.
One word of caution, look over your new truck carefully. My right front, chrome plated plastic "wonder cap" had been mashed by contact with the guide rail on the transporter. The damage was hard to spot, especially at night, but the dealer was quick to promise me a new one. Seems pretty obvious that these will not survive any kind of abuse.
