I just got my new Ram, and as soon as I get a few more miles on it I want to put a chip in it. I want one that will work well with a K&N and some exhaust work, but not much else. I used to be a Ford man, and I know that some of the PSD chips will make lots of power, but the EGT's are so high that it's not practical for towing heavy loads (12,000lbs+). I just ordered a pyro, but I don't want to have to backout of the go-pedal half way up a steep grade to prevent nuclear melt down... Any advice on chips? Also, I've heard guys talk about removing the silencer. What is it, and how do I get rid of it? (Forgive my ignorance, but like I said, I used to be a Ford man)

Prior to Bombing you need GAUGES

You need to do a search on "bombing". I think everyone will tell you to get some gauges on your truck before you start uping the HP.

Welcome to the TDR. Spend some time clicking around and reading and you will see why this site is so great.

The ring is in the turbo and it reduces the whistle somewhat, I to run the K&N filter and chose to reinstall the ring. You have to remove a snap ring to get it out. With the K&N you get the turbo sound.

Good luck and happy reading.

:D :p

See Ya

Chips

Welcome to you Jlinder, good to have you with us. Theres a lot of good chips out there , i think one of the favorites is the Edge EZ , and the VA is good, I run the edge and like it a lot, my friend runs a VA allso likes it but his smokes like a fright train, he allso runs 275s . :D

Your in the right place, plenty of info here. Read everybodys signatures and then you can see what other members have done to there trucks and you can get ideas and ask questions. But i agree, gauges should be first, then you can get an EZ, Exhaust, air filter.

JLinder, first of all welcome to the TDR !! We're glad to have you here. Read this first: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/...t=proper+order. OK, now do some searches on injectors, fueling boxes, boost modules, gauges, transmission modifications, air intakes, and exhaust systems -- and read, read, read. OK, now you're ready to ask some questions -- then get ready to abuse that credit card But, beware, BOMBing is an incurable disease that will always leave you hungry for MORE POWER, so don't say you weren't warned. BTW, I really like my Blue Chip Diesel Premium Fuel Management system. http://www.bluechipdiesel.com

Edge EZ and the DD TTPM

Welcome to the TDR BB JLinder! :)

What I REALLY like about the Edge EZ and the DD TTPM (which I have... both are built by Edge Products), is that in case of some driveability problem, the data link connection can be unplugged within a second or two, leaving the MAP sensor portion of the EZ/TTPM intact and functional (the '98. 5s/'99s are easier to access than the later data links though).

..... also great for expedient "removal" during emission testing :D

JLinder... welcome aboard!

My suggestion is to read and follow the thread on "proper order", that is linked above.

By the time you get to the step about adding more fueling, you will know your truck and the available parts better...

Do not discount the new VA module, aka plug n play. It has a on/off switch you can wire in, so no need to unplug it for anything. Products are always changing, improving. By the time you are ready for some more power, you will know much more if you read this board.

Something else to remember is to read these posts with one eye on who the post-er is. Some of those that recommend a product also are looking for sales. Some sell it cause they truly believe it is a good product.

That's the other advantage of the EZ/TTPM over the VA CPC, it only takes seconds to remove the data link connection thereby still allowing the boost fooler function to work. The VA CPC has to be completely removed from the system (and the two OE connections reconnected) to allow the engine to run (i. e. , harder to trace a driveability problem). Further, no VOID stickers have to be breached on the newer Rams with the addition of the EZ/TTPM.

As Rob said, the proper order of upgrading your Ram cannot be overstressed! Read and heed.

Good luck :)
