Ford 6.0 info

All Right... ... .

All Right... ... .

I guess it's only on my PC were it reads this... .

(*Class is full-size pickups over 8,500 lbs. GVWR. )

Last time I Checked the F-250's were over 8500 GVWR. :p

Mac:cool:

True, they are but Ford ( as well as other manufacturers) are referring to the above 8500GVWR as it relates to the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 and not so much as to the weight rating of an individual platform.

The 6. 8 liter V10 is still available for 2011... in the F-450 and F-550. Pretty cut & dried really.

Thats really a bad deal when you think about it. If the Scorpion gets anywhere near as poor fuel milage as the 6. 4 PSD. The V-10 would be an awesome truck!!!. Id take it with a stick.

I spoke with a vendor at Coolspring last week who updates his Fords every three years. He said the MPG on the 6. 7 is much better than the 6. 4 it replaced.

I think Ford has gone off on a tangent with their OHC truck engines, Ram and GM seem to do just fine with their 2-valve pushrod engines. It's a truck, not a sports car.

No more sticks either, that is a Ram HD esclusive.

Uhhh, did you really mean that?

Cummins engines have been four valve pushrod engines since the 24 valve was introduced in mid-year 1998. I don't know (or care) how many valves per cylinder Isuzu diesel V8s have.

Emasculating valve. Get it right! Now where did I leave that muffler bearing and the diesel exhaust fluid? :-laf

You can really make jokes about the exaust fluid anymore :-laf... . now you have to fill not one but 2 fuel tanks with different fuel that as far as I know can only be purchased at the dealer

The fluid seems pretty readily available from what I have seen at auto parts stores and fuel stations. At least out here in the NW anyway and if my little out of the way town has all of that I am sure its even easier in larger cities.

I meant to tell ya'll... . Went to get a D. O. T. state inspection sticker (to replace to non-commercial vehicle sticker that it came with)

Anyway, Guy comes out to my truck, looks it over, checking lights and the usual crap... Ask me how I was liking my new truck, making small talk..... then ask me to pop the hood... He said," I need to look under to hood right quick" I popped the hood, raised it up and at that point he mumbled to himself," Yea, I STILL can't see anything!!! Nevermind just close it back up... " I started laughing, at that point, he did also and asked that we never bring those trucks to them for work... .

saw it by the gallon on the shelf at advance 2-3 days ago and have seen it in gallon and drum quantity's in the shop flyer we get from oreilly

I was on an online chat in the spring with Chris Brewer, the Super Duty Chief Designer. He confirmed the V10 is only available on the 450/550 CC's because I specifically asked him. I ordered a V10 for my fire departments squad rig back in 04. F550 4x4 84" C/A chassis cab truck. Even to this day its proven to be a superb package. The only thing we did to it was install a high output alternator and larger main cables when it was new to avoid any issues with current draw, although we used a low amp lighting setup. We used a Police Interceptor high output alternator/small pulley combo... 200A. It gets up and goes!! You just gotta know that it loves the higher RPM's for its power. It'll run there all day and smile. Or idle all day. And I love the "growl" of that engine. It's kinda "Ferrari" sounding but deeper. And since we don't rack up the miles... gas mileage is of no concern really. Our old 351W V8 F350 was FAR FAR FAR worse on fuel economy.

Anyhoo the reason I asked the V10 question was because work wanted to order 4 new small plow trucks. But since the 6. 2L wasn't available with PTO provisions on the new 6R transmission... we had to go diesel. Which is ODD since its the same transmission as the diesel with some different programming. Its a marketing scheme I'm sure. But the 4R100 on the V10 was available with PTO. However we didn't want to go to 450's to get that. The upcost in doing that was close to just choosing the diesel on a 350.

I drove a new F250 PSD 6. 7L with the 400HP/800FTLB programming. I must say its very refined and nice. You can literally breathe the exhaust without even smelling anything. And I mean nothing. Its like air coming out of the tailpipe.

We ended up ordering 4 F350's 4x4's. Mainly because they were about $5000 cheaper than the Dodge or GM bids. We were open to whatever was cheapest that met our specs. We'll see how they do. They are due in Nov 22 and will immediately be upfitted with stainless 10' dumps, plows, hydraulics, salt/sand hoppers and plows. They will be driven by the most heartless drivers out there who WILL find any issues with the truck if they can't take it. We're talking highway department plow truck drivers who go out for 16 hours straight in the worst conditions hauling as much sand as they can stuff on them. We use these for subdivisions and certain county roads that the big rigs have trouble doing.

I talked with a customer that just got a new 2011 Ford with the gas engine. . Apparently they do have the same transmission. He said he is having an issue with it. He stated that the first time it goes thru the gears every morning, when it shifts to third, it jumps into neutral. I just started laughing. . cause mine does it too!!!. .

We noticed the same thing about the absence of an exhaust odor when the trucks were brand new. It is NOT the case once the truck gets a few miles on it. The exhaust odor is absolutely horrible, its got an odor like somebody is boiling a pot of amonia, and forcing you to put your head over it to breathe in the steam!!. .

The reason we are noticing this is due to running our trucks in PTO mode, so the engine gets throttle up to approx. 1075 rpm. and we are usually working out of the service bed, so we are constantly walking around the truck. . might have to get some of that strawberry scented diesel fuel additive!!.
