Have some parts left over and will post them in the "Other" forum when I get a price list together (lift pump, lite switch, K&N red foam sock for the tube type filter, y2k service manual w/Cummins eng owners book, 3 oil filters - Fleetguard, dash mat - black, etc). Will take offers, by e-mail, that at least cover shipping. Should have them listed by weekend. Need to find out what will fit the '03 first (know the oil filters will, the lite sw wont -the 03's has a more square panel, not sure about the lift pump).

Nice to see that the roof held up and protected you. Shame about the truck though. How much did the insurance company reimburse you? High or low blue book?

It doesn't look like there is one straight piece of metal on the truck!! How fast were you going? What is the story if you don't mind?

Thanks

DWela, the dust isn't settled yet. Will post figs when we settle.

CSevers, about 50-60 when we; was demonstrating to the SO how to do it; wrecked... was going west on I40 at Flagpole (Flagstaff) and tapped brakes on black ice. Headed for median and kept it straight till the wheel was grabbed out of my hands.

When I went back to p/u the trk, stopped and loooked at the marks. The right front tire either hit a rock or hole (couldnt tell due to snow/ice/etc. We spun side ways on the rt frnt tire and started tipping (musta been about 25-30 att). Thought it was gonna right itself but instead did a 360, drivers side first. Another 15 - 30 ft wouldve only needed to be pulled out (which, when the hook got there they put the fan into the rad and shroud) of the muck. The only non- damaged area is the dr side bed and tailgate. The pass side rear door is about the only repairable part on the cab & fwd (the grill is Ok and to me the bumper is fine, + the guard could be rebuilt as its only bent on the rt side).

We were the 6th accident at that spot since Friday nite (did ours at 0830a Sat) and the state was on scene cleaning up 2 others. He watched us roll and when we left in the hook, he pulled under the overpass to await the next one. AZ didnt even post or warn about this spot (201mm just west of the exit) and by Monday had 15+ accidents at this spot.

The estimate to repair is 16813. 28 and the approx book (my est) is 18+. Owe 23k but have the "gap" ins so it will be a wash. Just losing the 3. 5 yrs of payments and starting over with a new 03 that cant be equipped the same (no camper/sway bar pkg, for 1) Ins co should be offering me some thing next week (left the rear end cvr, trans filter, guages, etc on it so dont know how much they gonna give me for the "hole" rig (pun intended).

Ben,

Real glad you're OK. One good note - You can get the new HO with mega torque and plenty horsepower in your neck of the woods ;)

Amazing...

Your truck doesn't look bad at all for having rolled at 50-50 mph. Glad you came out safely; must have been buckled up. That's quite a grand total (no pun intended) for the repair estimate, but the pics are a pretty good testiment to the Ram's toughness and the driver's safety. Good luck with the ins. co. and have fun with your new '03.

Well I'm glad you walked away from that wreck. To bad about your truck I wouldn't want to deal with the insurance company b/c you never get what your truck is worth. The money they give you isn't enough to replace what you had. I think I would take my guages out and save them for my next truck they look to be intact from your pictures.

Good luck on your next truck and insurance.

Airbags?

Can someone tell me what it takes to get the airbags to pop on these things? I've seen 'em go off in 15mph car-in-ditch accidents. I'd have thought it should inflate when the truck spins 360? Anybody know?

Ben,

Glad you're okay, and thank heavens for gap coverage. Also, if you elected to receive the medical/health insurance, you can cancel that and receive some money back from the bank. Good luck with the new truck...

Ben, it looks like something sucked the seat cover off the drivers seat!

Sure glad to see you writing this up instead of someone else doing it!!! Glad all is well with you. Good luck with the '03.

Greg

Airbag deployment takes a frontal impact of about seven g's! The vehicle must decelerate VERY quickly to achieve this. Front airbags offer NO benefit in a side impact or a roll-over. Even in a frontal impact the bag(s) is/are inflated for only a fraction of a second, most people who've used 'em never see the bag inflated and even wonder if it worked (THEY DO).

Having nearly lost it last week on US2 in Washington, I can relate to how your blood pressure must have skyrocketed. Gets the old heart a-pumpin' don't it?

Real glad YOU and Yours are OK. Enjoy the new truck, the old one did real good seein' as how you're reading this.

God Bless You.

I can't believe that the truck looks as good as it does! LIttle consolation, I know. Take solace in the fact that you bought a truck strong enough to save your life. There's something to be said for thicker sheetmetal. Check out how thick the body panels are on a new Chevy-- it's tissue paper. There's not a doubt in my mind that a Chev would probably have totally collapsed and looked REALLY bad. My uncle has a newer one (Chev guy) and that thing has MAJOR dings in the body just from the stone the tires kick up! Not to mention he gets only 16MPG with his wimply little gasser.

I would let him drive my Cummins, but it's not acceptable for a grown man to cry in my family, and I don't want to set him up. .

Ben,

Really sorry to hear of the accident. But happy you and your lady are alright. We still need to get back together for breakfast again in Belen. I'll miss seeing your truck.

Is it alright if I print copies of the photos and give them to Ed & Robert Auge for their Ram customers?

Wayne

Glad you are ok, and sorry about the truck. I know that spot well. I was in an old Jeep Cherokee when I seen cars spinning out in front of me. I tapped my brakes and started sliding. Having full time 4X4 I was able to pull out, but 6 or 7 cars ended up in the ditch. Thankfully no one was hurt or rolled.

Because of the construction of the quad cabs, the roof is reinforce. Ford and Chevy used three doors because with four doors the frame would bend. No support because of such large openings. Dodge built supports into the roof to support the frame. That is why our A pillers are so large. Kind of like a roll bar.
