Happy new year!

Just thought you might be interested in seeing these pics.

You can see my old turbo down pipe has changed color to dark brown. I don't know if this is normal, but I attribute it to the 3. 5" dia being too small and getting hot.

You can notice also that the new is mandrel bent and has much fewer bends than stock.

I also have a couple pics showing the old Magnaflow 36" muffler internals to the new MBRP 30" spiral wound interior. My opinion is this is a gimmick...

The new exhaust is SS and the muffler is polished SS. Its 4" from the turbo to the tailpipe. It also came with a 4 to 5" polished SS tip.

This is a very easy mod for anyone considering doing it. All the new pieces fit perfectly and the stock rubber hangers are reused.

The hardest part was getting the old system out. Use lots of WD-40 or CRC 556 at the turbo clamp and it will come off on its own.

If you are considering a new muffler, you should also consider this upgrade as now the truck has stainless and the new parts were only slightly more expensive than just the muffler installed at a muffler shop ($412 vs. 265)

I haven't towed yet with this mod, but just driving around it definately feels more responsive and its not really any louder than before until you get close to 2500 rpm.

I seriously considered the Magnaflow system as well and went with the MBRP because it had fewer pipes (3 vs. 4) and the positive comments from various aftermarket people about how nicely the MBRPs are fitting up.

Hope this helps anyone considering a new exhaust system.

Louis

Thanks for the info. I have been debating exhausts for some time now, had a straight pipe since 8/06. Its been a tough sell to drop $400 on this, but now that it is paid off, maybe I can pull the trigger. My question to you is, even though you have a 3 1/2" downpipe at the turbo, like me (305 HP) the new MBRP with a 4" pipe mates perfectly? So, overall, a pretty easy install?

I've got this on my 12 valve and have been egging my dad to do it to his truck. MBRP knew what they were doing with this setup. I've got the same muffler and prefer the sound of the muffler to my truck being straight piped. It gave my truck a deep throaty sound much like a piped 3rd gen. You'll be happy if you go this route DZink.

I'm sorry, I not sure if I understand your question.

The MBRP system I installed is all new and all 4" from the turbo to the tailpipe.

My old system was 3 1/2" from the turbo to the muffler with 4" tailpipe.

The new MBRP fit perfectly. I was skepical, but very pleasantly surprised.

If you want to make it go 100% smoothly during the install, once you get turbo clamp semi tightly back on, spray it with CRC 556 and it will help the clamp grab the down pipe flange super easily as you tighten the bolt.

The p/n is S6104409 and I got it at:

Hope this helps,

nope, you answered it perfectly. with the stock 3. 5 inch exhaust that the 305 hp motors have, i was concerned that the new, 4 inch MBRP would not fit, (be loose by 1/2 inch) due to the turbo downpipe being 3. 5". i am guessing that the stock 3. 5 inch stock downpipe flanges out to 4 inches to mate with the turbo. i will be researching more, thanks a bunch!

The 305 HP '03 engine has a cast iron elbow outlet from the turbo that necks down to 3. 5 inches. You can replace that elbow with the '04. 5 or later elbow that is a full 4 inches in diameter.

Here is a better pic of the stock down pipe where it connects to the turbo.

You can see the flange that connects to the turbo is 4" and its welded onto the 3. 5" downpipe.

Louis,

As soon as you tow with this setup on your truck, please post the results. I went with the straight-pipe option a couple of years ago, but it was too loud in the cab, with a bad drone at 1950 rpms (65 mph, where I tow at), so I put the stock muffler back on. I'm looking for an exhaust that will lower EGTs but have no drone at my preferred rpm range.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

No problem, I'll post results later on.

I had my stock muffler replaced with the 36" Magnaflow and have towed quite a bit with this setup and there was no drone in the cab. It was definately louder, but mainly when I was getting on it going up a long pass.

At freeway speeds, 65mph and higher, it was fine and no complaints from my family.

Hopefully, the MBRP is similar.

Thanks,

Louis
