Thats probably a dodge 4500. I would imagine the tow body and any other loads would quickly max out a 3500. My buddy has one for his buisness and no matter what he puts on it it sags a bit. I recommended some Timbrens for the rears.

No, that's not a 4500, its a 3500 with ordinary 17" wheels and tires. A 4500 would not sag a bit under that load. I have a 3500 with a flatbed and boxes plus a 75 gallon fuel tank and fifthwheel hitch. It will sag about 2 to 3" under the heavy kingpin load of my 14k fifthwheel or 10,000 lbs. of gravel in a gooseneck fifthwheel dump trailer. That's about as far as the rear springs will depress and about 1/2 of what a dually pickup will sag.

They do sag a bit I've seen it with my own eyes. I see the truck a couple of times a week and I have even done some work on it (emergency lights). He has the Cheveron body with the wheel lift and boom. I'll snap a picture the next time he has a car on it.

I'm sure that tow bed with wrecker hoist is heavier than my bed except when I've got the aux tank full of fuel and the front end of that Furd Tow-Hook-Special is pretty heavy as well.

As much as I like my 3500 C&C for my application, I would not choose it for wrecker service except for, possibly, light cars. For towing heavy diesel engine light trucks I would not buy anything less than a 4500.

I guess it all depends on what's in the rear. I have more springs in the rear suspension than a 1 ton dually dodge, d80 installed and can carry a lot of weight easy while still being a 2500 from factory.

We had a 2004 3500 dodge dually come through the dodge shop with the utility platform removed and a long box put on. It had 13 heavy duty leaf springs which were removed and regular one ton springs installed back in.

Depends on what the truck is set up for.

My buddy with his 2009 3500 hauls 54,000 lbs gross combined weight with his 25 ft trailer. he's got 340,000 k on it now with original g56 still going.

Hbarlow: these photos should be the natural order of things.

Today I passed a repair shop that had a large tandem axle transport truck wrecker that hauled in a 4500-5500 dodge chassis cab (too far away to see badge number). I was too slow thinking and slow at getting my camera out to capture the photo. I guess I was laughing to myself too much as it took a dodge 3500 to haul a ford f450 and a big rig wrecker to haul a 4500-5500 dodge chassis cab

That's an 03' F550 with a 210" wb diesel on the trailer. I bought it as the company truck. Built a stake body for it and let the guys beat it up. I didn't want to buy anything fast or nice for the employees to drive and I don't have to worry about them getting a speeding ticket in it. :-laf

Blak smoke 12: I'm sure your employees feel insulted driving an inferior vehicle or at the same time, feel that the Furd is tougher than the dodges as the truck takes on their beatings and keeps driving. :-laf:-laf:-laf
