Good job Big Bob. You came through. I think I'll wait till Monday when them other ford buys are back at work to show them. That should start there Monday off right.
The angle of the rod cap never allows the force of the driving pistons to be in-line with the bolts that hold them together. I'd have to do a stress and shear analysis, but I'm lazy today and it sounds good anyway.
Tried to save Big Bob's connecting rod pictures to my hard drive but they don't save properly. Anybody else have this problem? Would like to save them for prosperity. HELP PLEASE!
Excellent pics Bob... . I have the pics saved to my hard drive email me -- email address removed -- ..... and i will be glad to email them to you... . Peter Z
Those guys don't have a sense of humor. There was an outstanding post over there a year or so ago on the Cummins engine by one of the moderators. I'm going to try to find it. Very interesting read. I also like what Jason Lester, the owner of the website said once. I'm paraphrasing here: "You look at both trucks, pick the one you like the best and rag your buddy for buying the other one. " Well put.
The offset means the rod bolts are not parallel to the forces acting on the rod, reducing chance of stretch. This means that the rod bolts rely on their shear (crosses the shaft of the bolt) strength, which is never in the same direction for very long, as the crankload goes through a full circle.
Interesting note, the Ford Triton engines have a one piece powdered metal rod that is drilled as one piece and "fractured" to produce a rod and cap.
Did YOU READ MADDOG ON THE FORD SITE... ... 603 to the rear wheels,my grandma once told me a story like this also ... . she claims her last wheel chair had a chevy big block with wheely bars and a 14/71 blower... ya sure it does
