Az-tec trailers

Here is a crappy picture, but it's about the best I can do. This was at Thunder Valley motocross track in Lakewood for a race. That's my wife's Dakota next to the trailer.

Do you have a camera system on the back of the Raptor?

I'd to try the same but haven't been able to convince the wife that I need a rear view camera.

I do have a wireless camera but not mounted on the rear of the trailer. . I mounted it on the wind deflector to try to make hooking up easier. . hard to crane around and see the hitch. .

The Ultimate. But it was far from that. I had to do some additional steel cross-bracing and gusseting, to get it rigid enough that I could trust it not to rock back and forth on washboard roads. First time out was an expensive mistake requiring repair and repaint of the of the rear fenderof the truck, and new handle bars and headlight assembly on the brand new quad. Not to mention a signifiant amount of embarrassment!! It's hell fer stout now though!

I'm realy surprised that they can stay in business with such a flimsy rack. But it is easy to lay flat for shipping.

If you have a factory bed-liner, beware that the tie-downs get relocated from the nuts that are welded into the bed, to a flimsy sheet metal bracket that is worse than worthless. They are so well disguised you dont' realize till it's too late that they simply bend when you put pressure on them.

Thanks, I bought the camper and wasn't satisfied how my Ram 1500 handled it so I got the CTD. I wish I had done it years ago. :)

AStrand, your Keystone Cougar appears to be the same size, layout, as our Keystone Sprinter 5er. If so, I wouldn't want to pull it with a 1/2 ton. The dry weight on ours was advertised to be about 6,500 lb but by the time all the accessories and our supplies are added/loaded, it's more like 8,000 lb. I think that's too much for a 1/2 ton gasser but a light load for a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel. Now if Dodge would hurry and start producing the 1/2 ton with the diesel, that would be another story.

That's what I found out. Empty it weighed 7,800 lbs. Then you add gear and equipment to it and you are way over the 6,500 lbs. claimed on the sticker.

The camper would squat right down to the rubber stops on the axcel. That alone told me the 1/2 ton was too small a truck.

This is better than Truckcamper magazine!

Wow!

I am impressed!! You guys have some GREAT rigs!

This is our current, humble Class C motocross camper. It has served us well for 10 years and over 40k miles and works great (and it's paid for!)

The more observant among you will probably notice what is missing right off: The Cummins!!

That is why I am wanting to sell it now and go back to a pickup camper. But it is not easy to find a pickup camper that has 3 beds capable of holding adult-sized people, though with the new generation of slide-outs, it may be done.

I doubt I can buy new (haven't received my 'stimulus package' yet for some reason...), so it will be hard to find just what I want.

Anyway, I see I have gone off on a tangent with all my questions and perceptions (right or wrong) for you pickup camper owners (slide ins) below. I am going to end this here and cut and paste the rest to a new thread asking for opinions and guidance from veterans of today's modern pickup campers!

Crazy Horse, rwitt, Don, Bill Stockard, and you other slide-in owners: I hope you have some time to answer some questions about your campers. crobertson1, you are a man after my own heart: Yamahas rule the MX track!! :D

I have had three Class C RV's. One thing I miss by having a slide in camper, is that I cannot get to the back for a drink or potty, without going outside the vehicle. That considered, I wll never go back to a Class C. One great advantage as I see it, is that I know you cannot get the fuel economy with yours that I get with mine:-laf\

That said, I just got back with my outfit, and am heading out again Tuesday, in the configuration of a fiberglass topper while the slide in sits at home, never could do that with a Class C!

If that "48" in your avatar is for JJ, I guess you're a happy guy this morning! My guy, KK, came in 7th.

That's a really good-looking truck/camper you got there. Seeing as how you're from the Branson area, any campground recommendations if we decide to pull our 5er to Branson one day. We've considered that as one of our future camping trips.
