OK here it is, a post on my initial impressions of Piers cam for our 24 valve trucks. Please remember that this is preliminary and as I get more info good or bad I will post.
Overall I am very happy with the results I have had the cam in my truck for about 7 weeks. Fuel mileage has increased by 9. 5% on the highway and around 5% in town. Turbo cool down time has also been dramatically reduced. Now for the really good stuff
My power output is up slightly, not a lot but Piers never said to expect a lot. I am able to hold max HP (Last dyno was 764) to rpm red line! This change allowed me to run a 12. 10 (which was almost . 2 better than any other run ever in my truck) in Atlanta a couple weeks ago..... Turbo spool up may or may not be faster, this is very subjective and I do not want to give any false info. My SOP meter says it is but I am having a hard time discerning it. Piers and I have spoken on the spool up issue and we believe that the valve lash needs to be checked. Unfortunately I have not found the time to do this. I will try and get this done and report back my findings. EGT's have also been reduced, best I can tell is overall they are down 75*-100* for most conditions. Under a hard load I notice a larger reduction in the area of 150+* or so.
So bottom line is it worth it? I would say "yes"! Like all mods each one has to be looked at for what you want to gain... . If your goals are to make the engine more efficient, increase HP, lower egt's, or just make it run better then this may be something you want to take a look into.
