Tell me about the copper head gaskets.

Rumor has it you guys are gonna get some copper head gaskets out.

Are they ready for sale yet? 12 valve of course!

Don~

I beleive the high boost trucks could benefit from the copper head gaskets.

How that truck runnin Forrest?

Don~

Ahhh, so copper head gasket goes in when the twins go on. :) Well, that being said, guess the porting job should happen while the head is off. :) Looks like Piers will have the Money Sink a little longer then.

Truck be fine Don. I trust you're abusing your rear tires as much as me. :) Taking it easy on 5th until I can scratch up funds for the new splined shaft kit & a trip to JD land down south for the install. By the way, sure like this time of year. The EGT needle takes longer to get to 1500 now with these 20 degree temps. :D

I guess the copper head gaskets were a rumor. I heard some Canadian guys were going to come out with some, I just figured it was Piers.

Forrest,

I did the standard trans fix for mine, so far no problems. I think Standard did me a fine job.

My EGT guage is not climbing very fast at all. I have a fuel delivery problem somewhere. Not sure yet where is it. Im thinking the AFC is where Ill find it.

I can go to the top of 4th WOT and not get past 1200.

Its weird! And its slow as hell. :(

This Kwikspool turbo is really great on the low end. I think Im choked on the top end though. Time for twins or a bigger housing.

Don~

Copper head gaskets??? Who would start a rumor like that:rolleyes: The computer part is all done, now just waiting to do some testing. They will be available for 12 & 24 v engines, in thickness ranging from stock to . 050" thicker.

I can just sit back and imagine the fun I'll have with marine pistons, a . 050" head gasket, Piers' ported head, a censored cam plate, 370's, Piers' gov. spring kit, and Piers' super-duper turbo..... You take plastic, right? I think I need 100psi... . so I better go with twins... . :D

Matt - one can dream for now, as reality is only a phone call away.

So, It wasnt a rumor... . well just goes to show ya, not all rumors are. . well rumors:D

I would like more info on copper head gaskets. I know my buds use them on fuel and alcohol engines.

The sealing should be better if I think i know what Im talking about.

Deezul1,

I have the whole shootin match apart right now.

The AFC is completely apart and seems to be fine.

I changed the AFC spring to the lightest one. It starts to open around 6 PSI and fully opens about 25.

I have replaced the overflow valve last week and I have the fuel pressure adapter from Mark at TST. It reads great fuel pressure at idle and up to 3000 rpm.

I just tonight replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the prefilter screen out.

Both of them had very low miles and the prefilter was very clean inside.

One thing I did notice was the fuel filter was in two seperate pieces and this was not the same as the one I replaced it with. The one I replaced it with was a single piece unit. NOt sure what that is all about.

Further, I just broke the rear cover off the pump to see about adjusting the governor position on the cam plate. As far as I can tell, it is fine as well.

I am going to reassemble the whole thing tonight and see if the fuel shut off solenoid is working properly.

If it is fine, I am at a loss as to what may be wrong. It runs strong until about 2000 rpm and the power falls off fast.

It feels stock:(

The only other possibility is the cam lobe for the lift pump is worn:(

I hope not!!!

Oh yeah, the lift pump is nearly new, maybe six months old.

HELP!!!!

Sorry its not something easy to find, sounds like you have covered all the bases. If the fuel pressure isnt laying down when the power drops off could it be timing slipped? dont know if that would do it. almost sounds like a governor problem with it being strong and then defueling. How does the boost look when it falls off, does it lay down at a certain boost, like a leak in the tubing?

Good Luck

John

Deezul1,

Its gettin worse... . I just got back from a highway trip.

Boost will climb to 38 pounds (HX40) the EGT's will only go about 1200 at the very top of 5th. This is not normal. It feels like a fuel problems of some kind. RPM will go past 3400 no problem.

Im really getting frustrated.

Anyone got a lift pump laying around I can try?

Mine is about 6 months old and should not be bad..... of course, ya never know.

The AFC bench tested out perfect. I changed the spring to the lighter one. I have the medium spring sittin here now if you want it. I should have the 4000 gov kit tomorrow and will pull out the 3400 kit as soon as I get this problem figured out. I will send the 3400 kit your way.

It would work well for your truck with the 11 plate.

I agree it sure sounds like fuel, can you see your fuel pressure while driving? it can only be no fuel delivery or the governor telling it you dont need any more after 2000. With my stock (almost) pump it will rev to 3000 but power falls way off at about 2600 (come on springs) is it like that and if so maybe something came loose in the governor. Hope you get it fixed, I will be thinking about it all night trying to figure what it is. At least we dont have any ignition system to trouble shoot too.

John

Ok, today I got the fuel pressure readings and it is perfect. I have about 25 psi at idle. About 35 at 2500 rpm and when driving it goes from a low of 20 at shifts and a high of 38. This is just fine. So I guess the fuel lift pump is good as well as the overflow valve.

I get a lot of white smoke at start-up in the morning so I figuring now I have slipped the timing alot.

Now I get about 20PSI boost at best and no smoke at all. EGTS wont go over 800.

Everytime I drive the truck it gets worse. Thats is another reason I feel the timing has slipped and may be continuing to do so.

Man, Im really bummed. I need to get the timing set. Anyone in the Dallas area have a timing kit?

Don~

Bad news on the timing, prolly about the worst thing it could be as far as fix time goes but it sure sounds like the problem.

Good luck on fixing it, let us know how it goes.
