hey im thinking about buying a piers diesel cam. 3 questions:

1. i want to install this myself. what kind of special tools and where can i get the special tools required?

2. how many hours of labor am i looking at? the sawzaw/welder way?

3. anyone else have the piers diesel cam? what do you think of it? what else is reccomended to go with it? I do plan to run 4200rpms and HD valve springs are in the plans.

04. 5 truck specs currently:

48re to g56 conversion with SB iron giant (with stock 4. 10 axle ratio)

older PPE HOT (3700RPM) plan to be updated to HOT 2 (4200RPM)

ts mp-8

90hp industrial injection injectors

FASS 150/150

quadzilla fooler

5" downpipe on stock turbo 7" stacks

(just ordered PDR stage 3 twin turbos and studs)

what kind of difference do you think the cam will make. im looking for mpg, quicker spool up and boost/airflow. Primary use for this truck is drag racing(street and empty interstate), travel out of state cruise around town (some) with this truck, miles at a time in the sand, offroad recovery. this truck is also my heavy hauler out of the two trucks about once a month until soonest date july 25th when the new rig is approved.

Anyone with a off the shelf cam or knowledge of please give me your input. thanks

anyone know where i can get the lifter tray, wooden, dowels, and and lifter installer? piers diesel told me they have had theirs so long they dont know where they got them. but they answered the other questions.

got a p/n or know of a dealer i can work with. my local cummins dealers other than the dodge parts counter infuriate me more than only getting a few hundred (not a typo) miles on a couple thousand dollar transmission. Or does anyone out there work at a shop/store that would be willing to sell to me including shipping?

I installed a cam on my old 94 and got the kit (tray and dowels) from cummings. I don't think I will use it again if you are interested. As far as performance, the truck was only 400hp and had stock turbo with the 14cm housing, there was not a big differance. I think the 24 valve head, larger turbo, higher rpm, and overall better flow would make the cam more noticable. The install kit should work on all years but not positive.

The 3rd gens benifit alot from cam swaps since cummins use a diffrent profile on the cam to meet emisions instead of going the EGR route
