I did the rocker adjustment today according to Piers' web site instructions. The whole time, I was cussing the master cylinder and all the sharp corners and wondering if it was worth it. One more pump seal is gone! BTW, take the fuel filter off right away - trying to do the adjustment with offset screwdrivers is a major PITA! My rocker was about 1/16" low and I moved it up to the tip of the lower hump, which was plenty. I went for a casual drive and didn't notice the difference in normal driving. Then I went around a right turn and had to merge into traffic. I was at low rpm and I nailed it when I had an opening and Hi Oh Holy I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER - I'm sure glad nobody was in front of me! The back of the seat never hit me like that! No more lethargic bottom end! I didn't know there was a cure for that. Thank You Piers!! It does take more right foot control or it gets pretty smoky back there! Craig

rocker adjust

wher did you find this adjustment information. I haven't found it yet. Sounds like somekick *** fun to be able to take off like a rocket in a 4 ton pickem up truck. Oo. :--) Oo.

ROCKER ADJUST

Thanks for the url. Looks like fun. I was going to tear into the dash and see where my heater core is leaking but this looks like more fun!:D

Ok- here is a question for ya all. I was adjusting things in there, and I found that if I just moved the throttle, the tab/thing hit the plate in about the correct place. If I pulled the shutoff soleniod up, the tab goes under the plate. What gives? Am I supposed to adjust the tab to hit the bottom of the plate with the soleniod pulled up, or leave it down?

I found out about this after putting my 4000 RPM GSK in and I'll tell you want it made my run alot better. My tires think too GOOD!!!!:--) :--) :--)

Lever adjustment

I have the same question as CAnderson plus some. I checked my lever adjustment but was unable to get the lever to touch the plate. It would come within about an 1/8" or so. It looked like it was in about the right spot but the truck runs like Piers describes with a weak low end and then it surges into power as the rpm rises. My question is do we need the fuel solenoid raised or in the on position to do the adjustment correctly? Thanks.

I'm guessing you don't need the selenoid uo to do the adjustment, as I think this adjustment is commonly done with the pump off the truck too.

If I remember correclty Joe Donnelly posted about the rocker moves forward to a cold start position. Maybe after the truck is running, the rocker relaxes to it's "normal", now adjusted position.

Just a thought

It is a stock plate. It has two raised bumps on the top of it (one is hard to see as it is hidden by the hold down bolt).

Here is a pic of Dave Fritz's stock 175hp (1994 5 speed) plate next to a #8 (if I remember correctly)

I couldn't get the lever to contact the plate either when I was checking the alignment. It came within 1/8" and then backed off.

I noticed, if I didn't have my tongue just right, the rocker doesn't always move far enough. Solenoid up or down didn't matter. After the back cover was off, I could push the rocker manually. If I pushed the rocker against the plate hard, it would ride up the plate a little more. Piers says to just touch the plate with the rocker so I didn't adjusts it where it slid the extra distance up the plate. I only did one WOT short blast and didn't watch the gauges. It might have been a little stronger on top end but maybe because of the harder launch at low rpm. I need to drive it more to tell for sure. That 175 plate looks darn close to the plate in the pump picture! Now I know why I didn't like the 8 plate - major transition from bottom end to the main fuel ramp! I used to squeal the tires in 2nd with the RV on when the rocker went over the lower hump. Does anybody know what makes the fuel filter gasket and o rings swell? Mine swelled and didn't seal when I put the filter back on yesterday - I never noticed that before! The fuel in the drain pan looked fine. I'm thinking some contaminant did it. Craig

Well, I fixed the fuel filter and went for another casual drive - 'smokin' up Arvada! First, I had to go over the curb at the end of the driveway real hard to shake out the tools I dropped into their hiding places yesterday. After looking at the pump picture again, I think raising the tip of the rocker on a plate shaped like the 11 automatically moves the rack forward a little. It's a tiny bit stronger on top end but I still have trouble going over 1200 egt. The bottom end is a trip!! My stock plate is going to be the next experiment - I already started grinding! Gotta get more top end fuel without increasing the bottom end more! Craig

Still no answer to my question? Does anyone know if the shut off solenoid is supposed to be up or down while making this adjustment? The tongue goes under the plate with the soleniod pulled up, and touches just right with the soleniod down.
