Where can i get a oilite bronze pilot bushing? I read somewhere about the one for our application not fitting, and one for a 79-80 318 powered truck would work:confused: I asked somebody at the dealer if they could get the oilite bronze, they were like "whatever come stock" Oh well.

The NAPA bronze bushing(doesn't specify oilite) is the same part number for 79 318 and my truck. Is this what I want? Or is it not oilite? It would be nice if my SBC Rally comes with one, but I can only hope. Any ideas??

Thanks, Steve

You should be able to get an oilite bushing of darned near any size thru an industrial supplier... on line try McMaster-Carr

www.mcmaster.com or MSC.

You'll need to specify OD,ID and length.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Jay

Just ask for the pilot bushing at any dealership or parts store.

The bushing that is desighned for our truck is an Oilite

bushing.

Do not use grease on it. Run it dry. Think about that everythime your stuck in traffic with it in gear and your foot on the clutch.

A new one will help reduce some of that horrible chatter you get when backing up with a load.

When I replaced mine I got the old one out by striking it with the edge of a cold chisle held at an angel. It came out in peace's.

I used the back of a socket do drive the new one home. Take note as to how far the old one is in before you destroy it.

Run in dry. The oilite is a graphite impregnated bronze material.

Steve, the dealer or cummins will have the oilite bushing. I take some stove bolts with the round heads stuck in the hole with the heads under the lip of the bushing. Fill the hole with more bolts with heads out, Put nut on one bolt sticking out with head under lip and use crowbar and will slide right out. If you can tap some threads into bushing and reduce to big grease fitting, a couple pumps with a grease gun will push that baby right out also. Then just clean hole in end of crank. Tim
