I have a 2007 2500 Quad cab Long Bed Auto, all stock except for a levelling kit with bags, my question is finding the right 5th wheel without going over the pin weight, I used to tow a trailer in the 7000# range now want to move to a 5th wheel, all the ones I seem to like are around a 1500# pin weight and weighing 9000#, I know the truck door sticker says 2000#, I guess that would put me over with fuel and passengers, but would that really be the case, there have been many posts on the 3500 trucks but I see many 2500 trucks that look like they are pulling more, the dealers selling the trailers say it would be fine, but I don't go with that.

Weigh your truck with it fully ready to tow passengers etc. What is your rear axle weight? What is the combined weight capacity of the two rear tires? Take the difference, that is your available pin weight. Let's say 10 GVWR is a RV your looking at. Take 20% of that is 2,000# Does that fit within your available rear axle capacity? Be award 20% is NOT Guaranteed especially if you are a full time RVer. My pin is 25#.
