Pinging noise?

I've begun hearing a pinging/clicking noise from the outside of the cab at idle. It happens intermittently, cold, hot, and in between. At first I thought it was the new 4" exhaust pipe expanding or contracting, but now I'm starting to wonder.



Could this be the lift pump telegraphing its demise?

My lift pump started clicking, then puking diesel. New lift pump solved the problem.

The clicking you heard from your lift pump--how fast was it? Mine seems to "click" at different speeds--even with the engine at idle. The lift pump would click evenly--wouldn't it?



As you can tell, I'm hoping it's not the pump!!

My clicking was even. It's hard to say at what speed, but I would guess it to be around one click per second or a little faster. Have you checked fuel pressure? That should give the info needed to help track down the problem.
