pinging under load

My throttle throw has resistance the last 10% or so. If I "floor it" past the resistance point while towing the engine sounds as if it's pinging. Is thie resistance supposed to be there? Also, could the pinging be due to running lean (lift pump)? I guess it's time for a fuel press. guage (5k mi. ). Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Mine sounds like that too, and I do not know what it is. I have heard that sound a lot in the last 80K miles, I don't worry about it. My lift pump is strong, so that is not it. Personally I think it is the computer changing the timing, but again I have no proof that is what it is.
