Pinion Gear Problems

Well, sent 3/4 of a tooth of the pinion gear through the diff cover today and leaked all the oil out,also blew an axle seal. Question is how long can it go under almost stock power and very little towing? ...

Not very long most likely.



But get the cover off and clean all the other scrapenal out and look at it. You could have blown a spider gear.



If it is a piece of ring gear I wouldn't tow at all.

Phil. . it's definetly a piece off the main pinion gear up front... there's no other teeth missing anywhere. The old owner launched it a couple before because of the gouges out of the carrier bearing section and ring gear housing, but nothing that's harmful. . looks ok for 250k miles i guess. . time to put 3. 07's in there LOL :-laf
