So crawling under my truck looking for the strange sound in the other post. I can turn the pinion about a 1/4 inch back and forth. The pinion has no play up or down or in and out is it normal to turn that much?
With the slack in the pinion/ring gear, the spider gears and the ends of the axles that is probably about normal. If you have the two piece rear drive shaft look at the center support bearing and u-joints. bg
On a higher mileage truck, that's not too bad. Pulled a trailer a lot? Probably fine if it won't move either way. What noise are we having? I missed the other post, I guess... ...
