Those of you who carry a pistol in your truck, do you have any suggestions on where you keep it? Are there any special boxes or holsters available that are specially designed to keep the gun safe, yet provide for easy access?

Note- this is a practical question, not a political one.

Thanks,

Blake

I use the compartment under the center console. Depending on what you carry, there is also room near the seatbelt latch between the seats on the driver side. There are companies that make a lock box that you can bolt to the seat and require either a lock or combination to get the gun out. I dont know of any off the top of my head, but I have seen them

In Connecticut (Where i live) you must have the pistol on YOU... OR,. unloaded and locked in a case in the trunk (Or as far from the drivers reach as possible. ) Putting the pistol in your glove compartment, console etc will get you arrested. The reason being if its on you, its in your control. If its in the glove box or wherever else, another occupant can get a hold of it. Also, say you get out for a minute to go in a store, then your truck gets stolen, now the thief has a gun and your truck. I actually think its a good law.

UMmmmm - even if the gun is in another part of the truck, locked and unloaded - and someone steals the truck, don't they STILL have both yer truck AND yer gun... ?:p ;) :D

What part of "shall not infringe" do we keep having problems with...

Yes they have your gun, but its not loaded, ready to use against the police or whoever else comes there way. Incuding yourself if you walk out to your car and the thief is in it.

So much for keeping politics out of it!

I have a paddle holster wedged in to the seat lever on the drivers seat. That keeps the gun at my left shoulder, allowing me easy access when needed.

Center console

That's were I keep mine. :) It's out of sight from passengers but easy to get to for me.

I always carry it "Cocked and Locked"

What do you guys do when traveling from State to State?

Do you keep your pistol in your truck or leave it at home?

So far I have taken mine with me, but I know each State has different conceal carry laws. A KY State Trooper told me as long as I have a valid permit in Indiana they will let it go. I don't know about other States though.

Tucked under the fold down console. I'm left handed so it's a convenient cross reach. I agree that you shouldn't leave it loaded and unlocked when you are away from your truck. A stolen truck and a loaded gun are a pretty dangerous combo for whoever has to deal with it. You probably have some liability also. The question is; what do you carry? I currently carry a Glock 30 (compact . 45).

Darrell,

From what I understand, you need to apply for a reciprocal license from each state that you want to carry in. I don't think they all participate but many do (I am not an expert in this). I was told that this can all be done by mail.

We sell tons of Desantis Fanny packs but the nicest one i have even seen is one by Blackhawk www.blackhawkindustries.com They make a few versions but the best one has two straps that go around the front of your belt so if someone was to unsnap your fanny pack from behind (Which is very common) it wont come off your belt. Its still safeley secured around your waist. Definatley worth getting. I wish we sold Blackhawk stuff here.

L&L

SS 41 Mag, 2. 5" barrel, 5 shot - handloads - sitting wedged between my seat and the center console - fits great right there, ready for why you carry it. When I leave the truck, slide up under seat - have a underseat large pocket - ave to look for it real hard.

I usually call the State Police if I am going out of the Great Lakes/Kentucky area. I tell them that I will be travelling through their state with a licensed/registered handgun. I ask if they have any preferences for me to keep it and to keep in mind it is in the truck for my protection, not to be kept out of reach. New Jersey is the only state that told me not to bring it, but most ask that if I am pulled over to put the clip in the glove compartment.

So I won't be going to New Jersey in September.

I have a glock 27 . 40 caliber with Ti guide and barrell.

When I got my carry permit, the Tester told me about a great site on the web, www.packing.org they have info on all the states. They list which states accept the Carry parmits of each state. It's a real cool site!

I keep a little "Friend" in the center console, which is Okay in SC. However, I think NC is one of those states that want it as far away and unloaded as possible. Weird.

We use Packing.org frequently here too. Just be careful since the site may not be up to date on everything. If a law has changed and you get caught, telling them "But Packing.org said it was ok" will not fly.

Big Ugly,

The law here is not that bad. It can be loaded and as long as it is in plain site or in a locked compartment. (glove box, trunk ect. ) It is legal.

I had to find this out the hard way!
