Turbos4Life;

That's what I was told, but I figured that since the glovebox doesn't "Lock", it would have to be in the toolbox? And I wouldn't feel comfortable with it in plain sight, might freak out someone driving along or make it more obvious to someone who would break into the truck just to steal the firearm.

When I have to go through NC, I just put the gun in a hard case and lock it with a combination lock that's just one number off. I figure it's locked but still semi-available.

Thanks guys,

I've only carried mine out of State in Kentucky and they honour Indiana permits. :)

I carry a Kimber Custom Stainless in 45 caliber (gota love 1911 syle pistols):D I soon hope to trade it for a new Ultra Carry II. ;)

Thanks again

Darrell

Thanks guys. I'm going to check out the sites you mentioned. I do believe there is a good place right between your right hip and the center counsel. I would like to find some kind of lock box that is easy to access (for me) when I'm away from the truck.

For state gun laws, go here http://mynra.com/frame. cfm?title=NRA%20Institute%20for%20Legislative%20Action&url=http://www.nraila.org

For Interstate Right To Carry Reciprocity and Recognition, go here http://www.nraila.org/recmap/usrecmap.htm

My Pa license is good in Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Utah, and Vermont. Hopefully Ohio will come on board soon since I work there, but for now they don't even offer a license.

I've been digging in the NJ laws to see if there is a loophole.

What I've summised (I aint no expert, aint my fault if you get in trouble:D) is:

If I purchased one of those lockable drawers for under my passenger seat, and I keep a magazine out of the gun... preferrably in the glove compartment, I can legally keep it there if I'm going to, or coming from the range. :D

That aint a problem, I'm always on my way there or home from there. :D

The law states that it must be kept out of the passenger compartment, but I aint driving around with my stuff in the bed of the truck. Nothing in the statutes mention anything about a PU truck.

I've also heard that a loaded magazine is considered a loaded weapon here in NJ, but I havent been able to confirm this.

The laws appear to be written in a confusing manner.

Eric

PS I used to get a lot of Blackhawk stuff, but the quality dont seem as good as when they made it here. Besides after they started making it in Korea, the price didnt go down as you might expect.

I wonder if Eagle makes one?

I was always told a loaded magazine stored WITH a gun, IS a loaded weapon. If you have your ammo stored seperatley away from the gun and mags, i dont see how they could have a problem with that.

I agree, they definatley changed once production went overseas. I bought a padded scope cover and it said "Made in Vietnam" I found that pretty weird, especially for a scope cover to be used on a military sniper rifle. With all the american flage all over the place you would think it would be made here too.

They still make nice stuff though.

Any good local sporting goods store can sell you a pistol box with the moulded palm grip that has a programable touchpad. After checking into allmost all state laws if your gun is locked in this box and a loaded magizine is just outside this box you should be legal. All I'm going to add to this is that in 1994 while stationed in California my wife and I more than likely would have been shot if I did not have my 45 in the truck.

Do you keep your pistol in your truck or leave it at home?

So far I have taken mine with me, but I know each State has different conceal carry laws. A KY State Trooper told me as long as I have a valid permit in Indiana they will let it go. I don't know about other States though.

Darrell

Carry laws vary from State to State, but I would not assume that if you have a valid carry permit in your State, the next State will let it ride, even if someone told you they would. There are sites, on the web, that can give you info on carry laws for each State.

Here's a site that might help: http://www.packing.org/

Yes, I think the name of it is Gun vault. A buddy of mine at work has one in his bedroom. Works good.

This might be a better option than the lockable steel drawer, for those of us that aint allowed to carry on their person.

if I had a pistol

I would get one of those plastic holsters w/ the tensioning screws that is designed to be a paddle holster. You can separate the paddle from the gun holding part. Then, I would take the gun holding part and mount it using the existing holes that were used to hold on the paddle. I would mount it on the front side of the plastic storage bin under the QC seat w/ a couple of machine screws so it would be accessible by reaching behind the driver's seat w/ your right hand. That's what I would do if I owned a pistol.

They dont put the Blackhawk insignia on the fanny pack, its on the back of it, where it faces you, so only your crotch will know you are carrying.

Working at a shooting range, i am amazed at how many people come in here from out of state asking to use the range and when i ask what pistol they want to rent the say "Oh, i have my own". Nobody seems to realise you CANNOT drive cross county with a handgun in your car.

They just arrested a politcian from Mass who was picking up a friend at Bradley Airport in Hartford. He was stopped at a random security checkpoint and was asked if he had any weapons in the vehicle. He told them he had a handgun in his console and he was arrested and is being charged with possesion of an illegal weapon.

We have had the ATF in our facility and has told us on more then one occasion that you cannot carry a pistol across state lines unless you have a permit for the state you are entering OR will be travelling through that state non stop to a state that you do have a permit for (Or a state that does not require a permit, like Vermont for example). The only excpetion being if you are travelling to a sanctioned shooting event where you have documentation to confirm you are in the event. People are always telling me they thought you could carry anywhere as long as its in a locked box. The ATF says no. If you are FLYING from one point to a place where you have a permit, fine. I have a friend who is licensed in CT who locks his pistols in a case, drives to NJ (where he has no permit) and flys to Florida (where he does have a permit) and then returns. According the ATF he is supposed to be flying out of CT. Its a very confusing setup and the only people i ask is the ATF since this is what they do.

I know of a Marine GySgt (Not on duty) who was at a rest area in Maryland and had stopped to eat and while walking out two troppers stated a conversation with him and he told them he was coming back from a shooting trip in PA. They asked him if he was using a rifle or pistol. When he told them a pistol, they asked if they could see it, he showed them and was then arrested.

I have travelled over the entire US this past year by bus and talked to hundreds of police officers and being with my past gun expierience always asked about laws and any stories of people who were carrying and i was amazed at how often they talked of people carrying with no permits for that state or no permit anyhwere.

One of the last bands i worked with that has a high profile lead singer is allowed to carry a pistol anywhere in the US. It was the first time i had ever seen documentation that allowed this. It was not to carry on him, just on the bus.

EMDDIESEL,

You certainly can drive cross "county" or country with a handgun in your car. Lock it in a locked container and put it in the trunk and you'll be fine while traveling. Federal law states that you can transport a firearm from anyplace you can legally possess a firearm to any other place that you can legally possess a firearm without individual states being able to keep you from doing so.

What if you are going to go hunting in another state?? As for the ATF that organization doesn't even need to exist in our governement they seem to me like they are always looking for someone to bust and for someplace to bring out the swat team after all they where the ones to blame for the debacle in Waco.

Don't get caught in Washington D. C with a handgun in your vehicle.

ALL handguns not registered before their cutoff date(in the early 1980's) are illegal in D. C.

Of couse the "Bad Guys" don't pay any attention to this law, but that's a whole 'nother thread. :confused: :-{}

David Koresh is responsible for what happend in Waco, not the ATF. They went out to the compound with a warrant and were shot at. As far as i am concerened, if you have no respect for the law and shoot at them, you deserve to die. (HOWEVER, i do NOT think all those children should have died, they had no choice but to be there, there parents are to blame, they should never have been there in the first place or should have left when things went wrong).

I was'nt there (And i doubt any TDR members were) so i dont know who started the fire. So that in itself is another issue. Maybe the ATF did, maybe Koresh did, we will never know what really happened so i am not taking sides on the fire issue. The only facts are, There was a fire, and none of them tried to run out, instead they killed themselves.

So i really dont see why everyone blames the ATF. There are so many people who LOVE to complain about the government here in the US and how bad it is and corrupt and evil. Well, the president was voted into the white house by the people, if you dont like him, you have nobody to blame but your fellow citizens for voting him in. The US even with its problems is still the BEST place to live on this planet. If all you want to do is complain about how bad it is here, LEAVE this country and do it somewhere else that you feel is better. Its just like people who say "I wish we had more police in my neighboorhood" and then as soon as you get pulled over speeding or whatever, you say "I hate cops".

This is not written to you Cummins Cowboy, its just regarding your statement which i hear often. Nothing against you. This is just my opinion, yet another wonderful thing about this free country, the fact that we are allowed to have an opinion and express it.
