Have a DSS on the way and wanted to get everything I need prior for the install. I have everything but assume that I will need to get a big socket for the pitman arm nut and the replacement that comes with the kit.

What is the size of the stock pitman arm nut and is it the same as the replacement nut/shaft that is used with the DSS. Also how deep of a socket is needed to install the new shaft/nut?

If anyone knows, let me know.

Thanks

I just did the DSS, SS TB bracket, Adj SS 2003 TB and PSC 3 turn box. I believe I used a 1 5/16 in deep impact socket from NAPA. The socket was 2-3 in deep but it had to be deep enough to clear the steering gear shaft anyhow, and the shaft is now covered but the new DSS nut.

I will have to look at the instructions when I get home tonight and repost.

The stock nut- 1 5/16, The replacement nut that came with mine- 1 1/4.

I used box wrenches on both.

Mike
That sounds familiar to me when I did my 97. The DSS nut is the same for 94-02. I can't remember the torque needed but torque can't be checked with a wrench.

Anyone know what the torque is?

Dave

Yeah, I'll confirm a 1"5/16 1inch deep to remove and 32mm 1"1/2 deep to install DSS. Anti-Sneeze b/c you many end up doing it twice in the next couple weeks like i did installing a 3turn PSC box. DaveM showed me the way so if you don't have those sockets you won't be wasting your money when you need to use them more than once. Thanks Dave

pipe wrench size for removal of nut 1 1/4 wrench for install

Install note:

When I installed mine last week or so, I had one minor problem.

When I placed the bearing housing over the extended nut, the housing was not flush with the brace, I used the 4 washers as spacers to take up the
space so the bearing was not forced against the nut,

The bolts are " just" long enough to do this, I need to get 2 bolts 1/4 inch longer so the locking nut is completely over the bolt.

I called psc, they informed me that fix was ok, They said that the problem is that some of the steering arms are not pressed up ( short splines or whatever ) as far as normal ( guess typical dodge ).

Anyway, brace is on, SUPER IMPROVEMENT !!!!! steer like a big truck, solid.

If you have any problems , call psc, make sure you get to the 'Guy'
He is real good to deal with...

I think that the torque is 185lbs/ft.

J-
I'll verify this one. You are right. My book says 185 ft-lbs for the pitman arm nut.
