Title says it all.

I have the intercooler with plastic ends. Is there an secret warranty/recall on these? I tow a lot and dont want to be stranded.

I'm pretty sure they will not replace it under warranty unless it fails.

diddo... if you get a failure, then you will get a new one under warrenty. now, if they have stock on the plastic, that is what you will get. if they have stock on the aluminum, then you will get that. but there is no recall and i'd bet there will never be a recall on these intercoolers with the plastic tanks. just replace them when they fail, and after warrenty, it comes out of your pocket.

Anyone ever try plugging the inlet and outlet of the intercooler with a rubber stopper, then pressurize it with an air compressor until it pops? They could just keep "mysteriously popping" until the dealer installs a metal one! ;)

That is so unethical... (but I've thought the same thing myself... )

Ok but what if you take your popped intercooler to them without your truck? Will they replace.

0. 01% they might replace the intercooler if you bring it there with no truck as a warrenty claim. just drive it there with a popped cooler... it is under positive pressure so you are not going to dust your engine, and around town at low throttle you will not harm the engine driving it to the dealer. the ecm will see no boost and will not fuel the engine more than what the manifold pressure will allow it to burn.

I'm going to be at my dealer next week for a recall on the wife's SUV. Since I buy a lot of vehicles there I'll try asking real nice about a replacement for my plastic and see what they say. They have been pretty nice to me, maybe I'll luck out...

Mine popped... ... . 300 miles from home on a Sunday afternoon... I have the Juice/Attitude, but had if turned off at the time as I was towing really heavy. Dealer warrantied it with a metal 03 unit (with chip still installed)

NLamke, were you able to continue towing with the intercooler popped? That's my main concern, popping while towing my fifth wheel and getting the truck to a dealer. I assume the power is pretty low without boost.

Mine blew towing a 14k gooseneck with horses up a mountain @ 10:00 at night, nowhere to pull off, no power, and EGT sky high. They don't want to recall them, they would rather you risk your life then them pay for their mistakes.

Has anyone had a failure with the plastic version?

I am all for paranoia, but if it ain't broke why break it?

Mine popped several weeks back, got it replaced under warranty no questions asked. I was not towing, I was doing 1/4 mile runs when it failed. It was replaced with the metal one (aluminum I think).

I wouldn't have had it replaced under warranty if it wasn't for the fact that many of these have failed on stock trucks, as evidenced by some of the above posts. I believe in the "if you play, you pay" motto, but this is just a bad design and bad idea to go to a plastic one by DC. It should have been aluminum from the begining. If I damage this one, it is all on me.

I popped mine. I was playing with boost elbo on TST and started hearing a leak I could not find. I was on the way to Ney Jersey in the middle of the night and it popped at Gainesville VA jus before getting on I66. A strip of rubber when the plastic tank is crimped on came out and it would not make more that 3-4 PSI boost. I limped it to Maryland where it was replaced with welded unit under warranty.
