Plastic sink in 5er

I normally park my 34 foot 5th wheel next to my house but when I had the house painted a couple of weeks ago I took it to Lake Mead and left it there for 4 days so it would be out of the way. When I got it home I noticed that one side of the kitchen sink had a crack in it and I was wondering if any of you wonderful folks out there have had the same sort of problem? The trailer supply store wants $160 for a new plastic one. I am inclined to install a stainless steel sink and not worry about cracking any more. I'll have to check with Lowes or Home Depot for a size close to the one I have. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yep, both sinks in my 5er are plastic, too. Haven't had any problems w/them yet, but I'm wary. I think I would put stainless in also, if I were replacing them. I figure it's just a matter of time before something happens to them. I've already replaced the plastic bathroom faucet with a brushed nickel cheapy from HD. Way better than plastic. Bruce

Having not dealt with this personally this is what I do know. Due to 1930s narrow counters my folks had to order a trailer double sink for their kitchen remodel. Expensive but avliable. Take the dimensions with you and they shold be able to get one for you. My bosses avion has a double stainless sink. Because im bored and dont really have a life i did look online and couldnt find anything.

Check with Camping World and other RV supply stores for SS sinks.

Plastic is cheaper initially to build them with... keeps the cost down. Obviously it doesn't last as long.

You should be able to find a stainless version at any camping supply house.

What size is your sink. I am parting out an older fith wheel. Think it is stainless. jps

If you are planning on keeping your unit, put in a stainless steal sink, you will be glad you did. You can never go wrong with stainless. My terry had one and so does my travel supreme.

My sink is 33X19 inches. If yours is in good shape let me know what you want for it if it will fit. I have replaced the faucets in the kitchen and bathroom with units from Home Depot. I was going to check with them for a replacement.

I did a quick fix on the one in our camper after a dish fell from the cabinet and cracked the plastic sink. Just get a fiberglass repair kit from an automotive store and lay a couple of layers on the underside, works great. The crack is still visible but doesn't leak and will be ok until replaced with a metal unit.

We broke the porcelain in our kitchen sink last year (36 Travel Supreme). I decided to replace with one just like the one that was in there (dumb). I should have gone to stainless too.



I shopped around for sinks for about 2 weeks. It was difficult to find one for a fair price. They are $$$. Then when I found a couple... . I was not sure that I could trust the supplier to get me a decent sink.



Finally I called Travel Supreme. They had the right sink for more than half of what every one else wanted. Most places wanted $200 or a little less. The one from Travel Supreme was only $75 shipped! If I remember correctly the stainless was a little less. It was an odd size. Shallow and wide? 35x20 or something?



Anyway... Just a thought. Check out some of the Mfg. suppliers or call them direct. Their prices may surprise you.

Thanks for all your input on this forum. As I mentioned previously the local trailer supply store wanted $160 for a replacement plastic sink which I thought was pretty pricey. I called the parts department at Cedar Creek/Forest River and I bought a stainless steel unit which bolts right on for less than $60 and shipping is around $15. Who woulda thunk? It seems that the manufacturers are always eager to please their customers.
