I have 2 questions:

1. What is the part number for the BHAF with the wire mesh inside?

2. My friend wants me to do some low budget bombs on his truck. Gauges are going to be installed, but we are having trouble on deciding on wether to use a # 10 or #11 plate .

The truck is a 97 5 speed 4x4. It is all stock except for a straight pipe, waste gate adjusted to 35 PSI, and soon to have a BHAF and gauges.

He doesn't want to have to replace the cluth and semi-regularly tows 5000 - 8000 lbs. Im not sure if we can run a 10 slid back or if we should just go with an 11. EGT's while towing are the main concern. He likes to tow at 60-65 MPH.

I know that you guys can lead me in the right direction and I appreciate that.

Thanks

Phillip

If he doesn't want to replace the clutch, the #10 is not for him.

My #10 in the stock position would easily roast the clutch. Even with the 215 injectors that were in the truck.

Egt's were also a concern while pulling a 15,000# 5th wheel. He will need some sort of air flow enhancement to run the #10 as well.

Can't comment on the #11 as I've never run one.

Can't comment on the plates except Duzzel 1 has an #11 with 370 injectors and makes 390 H. P and just short of 900 LBS and was slipping the stock clutch, the Filters are 10. 5 inch AH19037 and 8" one with wire mesh is AH19002.

The #11 slid all the way forward was about 340hp & didn't slip the stock clutch. It does make for high EGT while WOT towing though. :) However, regulation with the right foot took care of that. I'd say go with the #11.

Phillip-jacking the boost up on a stock setup won't give you any more power. You need boost and fuel together to make power. thats why stock it produces between 19-22 psi in boost. 35 lbs with almost stock fuel delivery won't give you any more power but add a plate and hang on. I'm not sure about the plate #'s-I believe I started with a tst #11 which adds about 50 more hp and now have a tst #5. I believe the numbers are different for autos and sticks as the injectors were different from the factory. Call Mark over at tst-he'll give you the answers. :D

Bill - I adjusted the wastegate pressure because I knew that a TST plate was in the future. We just went ahead and did it because it is easy to do and doesn't cost anything. :D

The 11 is a great plate for performance on a working truck. I love mine and it did give me a little more HP and Tq.

I have the #11 in my 96 5 speed with 215's and it works well. I pushed the plate forward and still haven't slipped the clutch. It did slip when we first put the plate in about 65+ k ago but hasn't since and has towed a 13,000 fiver for quite a few miles. Word of advice DON"T GO 17 degrees of timing. Blew my head gasket. I wanted 16 but the shop went too far. (I know you din't ask but just a warning) With the plate forward it will get warm in a hurry, I can't stick it in 4th or 5th without watching the egts soar. My max boost was 40psi in Idaho on a long trip. I think a BHAF will help. Thats next on my list but I have a straight pipe as well.

One question anyone know what kind of power the #11 makes all the way forward, besides lots of smokin and fun?

Shane

Thanks Forrest,

Now the 340 is that playing #'s or a dyno run. I am just wanting some good backing up so I can smoke my friends powersnoter and when he tells me he is running 400 hp I can tell him that I beat hiim with less.

Thanks alot.

That was on the dyno.

By the way, we've got tons of hot weather here now, >90 degrees. This is the 1st time I've been able to ck EGT with the BHAF & heat shield against last summer.

Last summer was less fuel, #4 -vs- #0 now & the stock air filter, snorkleless & K&N. EGT went to 1500 in a short distance. Now it won't get to 1300 in the same time frame. Oo.

forrest,

i currently have a #5 slid all the way. would a #11 be better? or should i go with the #0. what kind of power differences are there. i don't even know what hp im at with the #5. i have cosidered customizing my stock to a 0. would this be a performance gain for me in your opinion? mostly i am curious about the #10 and #11 because i hear alot about them. thanks

(maybe ill run plateless! lol just kidding):D

thanks again, du$ty

dcash, one thing to consider is that the 11 plate is for the 215hp pumps used on the 96 to 98. 5 12v, standard trucks. You and I have the 175hp pump and the 4, 5, and 8 plates are what we normally run (or the 0 plate).

If you don't tow much or heavy, you might consider moving up to the #4 plate, it gives better low and midrange than the 5. However, you've gotta take some EGT reduction steps, such as bigger turbo, or at least a bigger turbo housing (16cm non-wastgated) for your stock turbo.

In concert with the better breathing turbo is to open up the exhaust system, try running without the muffler and cat. Next is a full 4" exhaust system or stacks.

Good luck, Ronnie

dcash - Here is the plate chart for what plate -vs- truck.

Next step would be the #4, then the #0. I don't know how your EGT is running, but these 2 plates will definately add fuel & EGT. In the 215HP pump, they fall into the (NR) catagory. :--) In the 215HP pump, it should say (OBSCENE).

thank you moparguy and forrest,

i was just confused on which did what exactly. i think instead of going to the #4 i will hold out and fight the egt's down probably with 16 n/w housing and maybe 4" exhaust. then ill probably skip to the #0. i guess first i might need to buy a clutch so ill be able to at least keep enjoying the power i have now:D thanks again guys,

du$ty
