2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission play in steering box

I just bought a 96 3500 4x4 and on the way home i noticed about 3" of play in the steering wheel and ps fluid sprayed under the engine. i've read here that these steering boxes have problems from the factory so i was wondering if there was a suitable aftermarket replacement or a fix for the stock box. any help would be appreciated.

thanks for the links bmoeller, i can allready tell that the tdr is going to be a valuable resource. i will proberbly be going with both the agr steering box and mikes brace to make sure i don't have to fool with this again.
