its been years since ive posted, but we have an 2001 3500 6 speed that recently has been wrecked and declared total lossed by the insurance co. we bought it back and now need to know what the value of the motor and transmission would be worth. 180000 on the truck, no frame damage only front and rear end body. runs like a dream, gauges, bd injectors, cat back exhaust, aux tank, what a waste to sell it for junk. lets start there, and i look forward to any info from members.

Pictures would help... If you are looking for a bed call arround to people that sell dump bodies and utility beds. I have seen factory boxes stacked up three or four high behind these places.

no frame damage. in the state of virginia, according to our insurance co. , once a vehicle is damaged beyond a certain estimated total value, it is totaled. just think what the nose and bed are valued in the insurers eyes. logic would tell you that it doesnt take much to total a 2001 truck with "high mileage". we bought the truck back with the intention of repairing it and putting it back on the road, our mistake. in our state, a salvage title cannot be reissued, so we are left with a perfectly running "junker" hopefully that makes things clearer for now.

Sell it to a relative out of state. Let them title it then buy it back as an "out of state auto". You don't even have to physically move the truck just the paper work.

If you don't want to do that, I have a 73 340 Duster that would look pretty sweet sittin on top of that frame . . . :-laf

Packman!

I am just guessing here because it has been 20 years since I delt with salvage titles, (back in the 70's they didn't even exist), however I think when it was sold back to you it became a salvage title. You should be able to fix the truck and drive it as you like. VA is probably trying to limit the number of vechicles bought wrecked and re-built for profits. That is why they are saying that salvage titles can not be re-issued. But in your case you don't want to re-issue any way. Don't part this thing out until you do some checking on what you can do to put it back on the road again. A good place to start would be your local sheriff. They are usually the guys that get to check salvage wrecks/titles after they have been re-built and ready to put back on the road. They do this primarly looking for stolen vechicles and parts.

I hope this helps! Check into it further. Good luck

packman, not sure how much you have looked into it, but at the time (4 years ago) I was able to re-title a VA salvage title motorcycle after it was repaired and passed state inspection, I do not know if they have changed the rules since then, but I expect you are just getting the run around by DMV, maybe dig a bit deeper. The title I got was a salvage title, but it had my name on it.
