2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Under Dash squeaking

HI everyone, I have a 99 with a 5 speed and when I take off in 2nd gear from a dead stop it kind of makes a squeal (not real high pitched though) and in the gear shifter it feels like something is kind of rubbing something, not grinding just rubbing It goes into gear just fine and shifts just fine moving or stopped. It only does this in 2nd gear if I take off in first and then shift to 2nd it does not do it or if I am slightly rolling and go into 2nd it does not do it. I have been taking off in first to try to avoid doing any more damage than I have to until I can get whatever it is fixed. It had a new clutch put in it about 30,000 miles ago (south bend clutch) which has worked great so I don't think it is the problem. By the way the truck has 158,000 miles on it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Cory

I'll try to help.

First I drive an auto but have experience with a stick and the noise you are describing, as my employees are good at ripping the center out of a clutch.

Did you try it in third?

Once you get going and shift to second, there is no noise? 2nd gear is ok then.

Craw under it with the inspection cover off and have someone try to drive away. ( of course with the wheels blocked or a SLED behind it) Look at the clutch to see if there are sparks.

Get back to us.

Thanks Fox, but if it was the clutch wouldn't it do it when I take off in first gear? Is there a cover that you can take off on these? I didn't think there was.

Thanks again for the response
