Lift pump Questions

Is the water pump located near the front passenger side of the motor?? Kind of near the AC compressor? This is the second time I have got a few drips of coolant from the front passenger side of the main engine pan. I can't really tell where it is coming from exactly. Either the water pump or could be where the lower radiator hose attaches to the block. Not sure if it has any relation to the drizzle of coolant I have been getting from the overflow reservoir... Thanks for any help you can provide. Truck is an 06 with 14,000 miles. .

Update, glad I took the pictures when I did. . went back out few minutes later and it had all dried up! There was still a little spot on the drive but the drips were gone. I guess when the engine is turned off the cooland continues to expand and it escaped out the seal!

You can see a very clear line of wetness extending up the engine. You need to trace that to its source to determine whether this is flow from the weep hole or from the radiator hose attachment.

I got under the truck with flashlight and it is a pain then the ***** trying to see exactly where it goes up to! LOLOL It gets very tight in there. From the top side I reached down and felt all around the radiator hose connection and it was dry. Plus the water pump sits right under neath the hose connection and toy couldn't see where it had dripped down onto the and continued down. Since it would only do it after the truck was shut off I am really thinking water pump as I was told that when the truck stops the coolant stops flowing but continues to expand... Thanks for the help guys I am going to have a nice little chat with the service writer tomorrow and take it in Tuesday. . Is there a dye that they can put in it like oil to see where it is coming from???

Their is a dye for the (coolant) he can add to the rad directly.

The dye for oil is is different.

Update:

Well, drove the daylights out of the truck today in the heat with the trailer. Not one drop from anywhere... . I am beginning to think this cummins likes to be abused and gets drippy and fussy if you baby it too much!! See what I get for keeping my engine compartment so clean!! If I let it get all built up it would have soaked up the coolant and I never would have seen it... . Going to dealer Tuesday to see if I can get them to replace the pump based on a picture!! :-laf

Yup. Mine was leaking from the same spot and had a heck of a time trying to figure out where it was coming from. Finally, using a VERY bright flash light from underneath I was able to see dampness from the bottom of the water pump.

Warning , unless you know your dealer has a good reputation , you may want to avoid using dealer , but being that your under warranty , its a tough choice .
But the way to find the leak is to use a mirror with that flash lite , then where to look is at the bottom of the water pump pulley & just behind , there is whats called a weep hole that will allow coolant to come out as the seal fails , if this goes on for long , the bearing fails & the fan can come lose & fly around & get into all kinds of stuff , the dye is used in case there is so much fluid in the area , that you need to see the difference between the old & after adding dye to look for , yours looks clean enough that you should be able to fine with the mirror & flash lite , to help when it only leaks occasionally , having coolant pressure tester , it goes in place of the rad cap & then you pump pressure [ 5-10 lbs ] into cooling system , to help find leaks .
If the dealer wants dime one , go to a Cummins dealer , buy a pump do it your self , one of the easiest things that you can do is replace the water pump .
