Reese Classic 20K install 3gen

Boat behind a fver

I have a 2005 3500 drw automatic, 3. 73 stock. I want to install an exhaust brake. I've read many seemingly conflicting comments.

What would ya'll recommend for an exhaust brake. I've been looking at the Pac Brake. Do I also need a TC lockup module for my '05? That sucker is about $600 itself.

I am very new to diesels and pull a 13k# trailer. I hate white knuckle driving.

Please, any input greatly appreciated.

i love my Jake. a little lowder than others, but it doesnt bother me much. dealer installed was about 1300. i wanted them to do it so when the dealer (another one, and this was today) tells me "you have extra wires going into your PCM, we cant fix your truck's check engine light issue" then i can smash thier bag.

if it was another company's product i would have issues with it more than i do already.

First, let me clarify, I don't have a third gen and I don't have an automatic. I believe that while you are in tow/haul mode the TC stays locked up while decelerating, so if that is the case you do not need an extra module. You DO need the TC to stay locked for an exhaust brake to do you any good. I also understand that the 05 auto had a weak part that made using an EB a no-no. Perhaps you could have it upgraded to the 06 specs. Finally, I'd recommend the Jacobs EB. I have over 400k on mine with only one microswitch failure.
