On The Road / Help With Error Code

Bought this truck for inlaws to haul bigfoot , 9 foot camper. I have been trouble shooting turbo low boost, 299 code, as well eliminating excessive noise from turbo. The exhaust to turbo was extremely loose... removed, cleaned, replaced gasket, torqed to specs and better but still loud under load/climing as well at just idle. I will set up a pressure tester thinking there are other places it is leaking as well.... also looking at taking off K and N filter and returning it to stock air intake.
Tips appreciated.....

very hard to tell, looks stock to me... make sure to test for boost leaks. most of the time that is where it issue's are found.

Also in testing boost leaks any links appreciated.... build a rubber mounted seal with air chuck, put on in place of K and N air filter , pressurize to under 30 PSI .... I assume you have to pull the turbo and seal all the other openings ?
Thanks again . Found a stock air filter set up for 75 bucks from a wrecking yard

no need to remove the turbo or seal anything. You will need an air compressor and a spray bottle with a soapy solution to spray on suspect areas.

It does not look like a stock HE341 to me. The center section, turbine housing mounting, and compressor housing mounting are not HE341.

Yes after closer inspection I d say its a 200 dollar copy.... looking at a holset rebuild't in america from Yiyitos turbo site.... thats all they do is rebuild turbos , says its genuine holset with the solenoid included 599.00 shipped .... also looking at a local wrecking yard with stock air box.... 75.00 I am sure thats why I was getting irregular low boost codes ....Plus sounds like a jet engine..... we are going for the more quiet, stock rebuild :)

The solenoid is only needed for 04.5.

Did you get a chance to look at the valve cover for the hp rating?

I assumed ours is a 04.5 since it has a solenoid and I can't find any sticker on the valve cover my vin number is vin 3D7KU28C74G213350 and putting that into the cummins site pumps out this
engine serial ESN number ...... 57163733 thanks again ! any tips on parts sources appreciated, seems like a stock rebuilt with solenoid for 600 shipped is a great deal .... from our local wreaking yard they are 400 to 600 ....

Yes it's a 04.5.

I'd also give Turbo Re-Source in Lake Havasu a call. They do rebuilds and only use OEM rebuilt kits.

Morning John,
I emailed the guys in Arizona also checked into the kits Yiyitos (599, shipped) ) and they say they only use OEM parts. i will verify this with their reviews and others that have bought from them.

I hit up the local wrecking yard but they have been picked over so much not much is in place and mostly finding what I think are Gasser air box/cleaner's and hoses.

I did find one top with a sensor and reset which seems to me to be the one but it was broken anyways.

When I looked up the parts diagram on some OEM Dodge sites using my VIN number the diagrams look more like what I was seeing on the gassers.... no sensor on the box it self?

Any sites you use for used parts?

Any help appreciated... I'll post a wanted ad in the classified as well
thanks
The valve cover on this rig has no sticker ....
