I have a 2005 3500 drw automatic, 3. 73 stock. I want to install an exhaust brake. I've read many seemingly conflicting comments.

What would ya'll recommend for an exhaust brake. I've been looking at the Pac Brake. Do I also need a TC lockup module for my '05? That sucker is about $600 itself.

I am very new to diesels and pull a 13k# trailer. I hate white knuckle driving.

Please, any input greatly appreciated.

Bob...

I can help you if your interested in the pacbrake... drop me a note... . but you will need something to lock up the torque converter... . we have those also... but your right the loc up circuit for the transmission is in the 5 to 600 bracket... .

We have several trucks all pulling... . our largest trailer weighs in at 20K and the exhaust brake won't quite hold it on a 6% grade... but it will hold 15K lbs with ease...

When I go down the siskiyou's or over the divide on I-25 or I-90 I don't use the brakes much at all... . Hope this helps...

I don't have an auto but I have the Pac Brake in my SRW and drive I-80 through the sierras with a 15500 trailer and it will hold it most of the way into the Sacramento valley. There are a few places I need the service brakes but the Pac does a great job. I just got a new Pac PRXB the other day for my dually from jelag, now I just need the truck to show up. He had the best price by far.

I'm running a Pacbrake as well. I went that route for fear of the vac pump that Jacobs uses, I prefer the compressed air activation of the Pac. I recently read a thread about a vac pump failure so it seems my suspicions are beggining to come true.

116k trouble free miles on my Jacob's setup, do have to clean out the vent filter thingie on the solenoid once in a while, but no big deal. i'm sure you have to on the others also.

I too have the Pacbrake and would never own a truck without one after having this one, but can't comment on having one with an automatic

Although on my 98 I had a ATS auto with the lockup control and I will say being able to lock up the tq conv to help slow down or even for pulling, I was able to set lockup control to stay locked as low as 8mph and heck it worked awsome and that was without a exhaust brake so with one should do sweet

P. S. I dont recommend setting the lockup to release at to low of a speed otherwise it will be very hard to stop for stop signs etc

Be prepared to pull itall off when you take it in for warranty work . You will void warranty on the trans for sure.

Why would it void the warranty?

05 exhaust brake only for manual trans only, their contention will be that their is no garantee that the torque converter will lock up.

It WON'T Void the warranty!!!!

Only if it causes the transmission to fail, and they can prove that it was the problem. Oo. :-{}
